Transfer Rumour Virgil van Dijk

To get to the next level, we have to buy proven talent here and now. Schneiderlin snd VVD are those types of players. DCL and lookman are obviously Walsh style players with potentially great futures ahead of them.
If we were to sign van Dijk, then I think if we focused on a play maker and goalkeeper in January or the Summer then we'd have a great spine.

We'd have proven, high calibre players from the back to the top: then it would only need tinkering to other positions to improve our squad.

Now I dont know if VVD is the answer, as I think there are a few out there. But I think there are 3 pieces this team still needs, a creative attacking mid or second striker, a dominant CB so Williams can be the #2, and a winger. Yes, goalkeeper would be nice, but I think those 3 pieces give Koeman the pieces he needs.

Wa
I thought the whole point of bringing in Steve Walsh was to find talents without having to pay £40/50 million. Surely there's a centre half better or equal to VVD somewhere across Europe?

I really rate VVD but he's not the messiah of defending.
Firstly Walsh was brought in as DoF not head scout. Secondly perhaps there are no cheap buys who fit the criteria at the current time. Thirdly it could be that the player actually wants to work under Koeman and he fits the criteria as well.

Well it looks as though Perin is the goalkeeper that's been identified. As for playmaker sigurdsson would fit the bill. Berahino as back up to Rom and by all accounts we are looking at Cafu the winger from ludogorets.

That's just perception. There's no one out there independent of Everton who are sitting up and saying: "I tell you what Lukakus/Baines/Coleman's game has soared in the last 6 months".

That's just not happening.

We have a manager who cant or wont coach better ways and wants to be a chequebook manager to get around that.

You levied the critique against the club, not Koeman. Be a little more selective in your pessimism going forward please.

With Koeman in mind, I would agree that not one player has improved since his arrival, with maybe the exception of Davies (which is mostly because he's becoming an adult).

If you take the games around Christmas as our season so far (early season games are time given for impact imo) I'd argue lukakus game has definitely went up a notch, Colman seems to be back to his old self as does baines. You forget how poor this team have been the last two years. The team we had on paper i would have put up against spurs's team any day of the week of either of the last two seasons.

Can't see this transfer happening really.

If we were to spend the kind of money it would take, assuming Southamption would sell, which I can't see, imo...

Our big pulling power in this transfer will be Koeman. VVD likes playing for him - splash the cash here.

Soton are known 'sellers'. IMHO, If the right offer is received then I think he's off.

Let's be bold, before some other team beats us to him. If we aren't ambitious, then let's at least give the impression that we are. This window is important.

But perhaps equally importantly... which of our big names will we release in order to get to get to the next level (and/or balance the books).

Southampton will sell him for the right price but not in January imo unless it's crazy money.

I think the team would do better spending that kind of money on an attacking player, our defence isn't that bad and we have good youngsters coming through.

One thing that VVD does that might get overlooked is that he is excellent when pushed forward. His heading and passing in the final 3rd is superb. He is a goal threat, something we have lacked since Lescott. When we have been successful we have always possessed an attacking centre back.

He would be a marvellous addition to the team and potentially the only hot property marquee signing we might pull off, due to Koeman.

I still can't see it happening. If we were to bid a fee they would accept then clubs like Chelsea or Man U would match it and as they are more established he will end up at one of them rather than here.

I also would be very surprised if we signed VVD in today's market his value is around £40m I'd say, but I would much prefer us to try and get another CB for around £20m, obviously our transfer budget isn't endless and we still need help up front for Rom and a few others in to try and improve the team. But then again if we could pull off a deal I'd be more than happy to have him here.

Sadly think he would be out of our price range but he is the best Centre Half in the Premier League. I've seen him in Scotland and although the level is far inferior to what's in store in England it was clear he was a truly top class player. Really wish he had been signed when he was still in Scotland because I think even back then it was obvious he was probably a better player than Stones l.
