Transfer Rumour Virgil van Dijk

Can't see this transfer happening really.

If we were to spend the kind of money it would take, assuming Southamption would sell, which I can't see, imo we'd be better off spending it on a player who can create\score goals unless we have so much money we can do both.

Our teams main issue is scoring goals. Unless we are going to spend over 100m this window then spending 50m on a centre back, irrespective of how good he is, would be a statement of our own stupidity instead of intent.

Attacking players win you games and buying a flair player people think is out of our price bracket would make much more of a statement and be more likely to attract other skillfull players. Our defense isn't as bad as some people make out although it does need improving.

The Van Dijk you see now is the one who played at Celtic.

Koeman cant get his own defenders here to be adequate, never mind be the best.

What a truly ridiculous statement - Van Dijk was bog standard in his first couple of months at Saints and is now one of the league's best defenders thanks to Koeman. I bet if Martinez bought him you'd be lauding Van Dijk as the best in Europe even if he went backwards under him (which he would've done)

Our defence has been infinitely better this season bar a drubbing from Chelsea. Don't know why everyone thinks it's so bad tbh.

The main cause of our problems is old mam Barry in front of the defence doing sod all.

VVD seems to disagree with you mate

His performances have earned rave reviews, and the Dutchman has been quick to praise his manager for the role played in his career.

He was an amazing player himself," Van Dijk said. "I never saw him play (live) but obviously I've seen clips of it and you know the stories.

"But, yeah, I can learn from him every day and that's what I definitely do.

"He gives me confidence and he wants to get the maximum out of me and that's something very positive for me as well.

"He's very, how you say, critical of me, hard on me, so he wants me to do better, even smaller details and I think that's a very good sign. I am very glad he is doing that as well."

There was criticism directed at Van Dijk earlier in the campaign, when he looked like a poor signing due to a lack of concentration during games.

Going from dominating the Scottish Premiership with Celtic to life in the Premier League required adaptation, but the defender enjoyed the low moments as "that's made me the player I am today".

Van Dijk picked out his maiden Premier League goal against Swansea as his favourite moment at Saints this term, but is frustrated to have only netted three times.

"That's also something for me," he said. "I am very hard on myself. I need to score a couple more this season.

"With my height and also ability to head the ball in free-kicks for example, what I didn't show this year I need to do a lot better. It is something to work on."
Nothing whaysoever in that which contradicts what I stated.

I said his game hasn't changed. It hasn't. The way he played in Scotland is the way he plays here. Advice off Koeman on (as he says 'details') doesn't suggest he's changed his way of playing (which was my statement).

I not there also that the article identifies the contours of his time at S'ton that I highlighted: ropey first season before finding his feet and adapting to the pace of the PL.

No mate he had a ropey first few months until Koeman drilled the mistakes out of him, strangely since he left he has had a couple of games where his concentration appears to have slipped back to old habits - and hes made concentration errors etc.

Like or dislike Koeman, if a player gets on board with his methods then they will be improved, like with most good coaches tbh.

Flip side is if they don't then they will likely paly a lot poorer etc

Van Dijk's progress is down to Koeman?

Ok mate...not done a great job with Jagielka or Funes Mori has he?

Van Dijk acclimatised into the PL. That would have happened under any manager. The lad is class.

Name me one player who has improved for Everton since he arrived...just one.

Actually think Baines is playing better, think Ross is showing signs of his all round game improving (although his confidence seems shatterd since mid last season), coleman is playing better than last year, Lukaku arguably as well over last season mate

Biggest problem is the fact that it's not going to be possible to judge until he has more of the players he wants in the team, schneiderlin should see us showing much more of mwhat he aims for, and likely need another cb and winger as well before we can see how the rest adapt.

Not gonna judge him on 5-6 motnhs though mate, same way as Liverpool 6 months into Klopp being in charge showed no signs that players like Lallana would become what he has this season (and coutinho suddenly gainign consistancy etc)

Give it time mate, by the end of this seaosn you shoudl see whats what with a lot of the squad

Baines = well, I wouldn't blame him for not improving him, tbh. The lad's shot. No improvement there mate. That is a massive reach.

Barkley = never seen him so poor. Last season btw was was his best at Everton. More goals and assists than ever before, and that was for 2/3rds of a season until it fell apart for us.

Coleman = what the improvement is there I dont know. He is still chronic as a defender. His game going forward depends entirely on Lennon being in front of him.

Lukaku = no, not understanding that. What has been improved there precisely?

Jesus Dave, you are now seriously contesting that not one player has improved, ever, since moving to Everton.
Lukaku has improved undeniably since his arrival. His hold-up play and first touch as well as his positional sense are markedly improved from his first year.
Baines was once called one of the best left backs in europe during his best years and no one should soon forget the Bainaar link up down the left. Ludicrous to suggest he's not better here than he was at wigan.
Coleman is obviously better here. When he arrived he wasnt even trusted as a right back, now he's cemented his place in the team for 4 years running.

Will also include these players who improved AFTER they moved to Everton:
Arteta
Pienaar
Cahill
Lescott
Stones

Some days you need to post less rubbish and today is one of them.
