I saw no massive improvement. TBH, I saw his first season there at S'ton with Koeman as a very up and down one where he clearly couldn't get to grips positionally. He has been superb this season however. That isn't down to the change in manager from Koeman to Puel though, it's just that he's acclimatised his game. He now plays and commands the pitch exactly the way he did up in Scotland with Celtic. This is his game - an all action territorially roving CB.

Van Dijk picked out his maiden Premier League goal against Swansea as his favourite moment at Saints this term, but is frustrated to have only netted three times.

"That's also something for me," he said. "I am very hard on myself. I need to score a couple more this season.

"With my height and also ability to head the ball in free-kicks for example, what I didn't show this year I need to do a lot better. It is something to work on."

Heard Schneiderlin has had a post medical - medical today to see if hes fit for tomorrows pre game medical
