I think that was down to us being determined to hold onto Stones. If Chelsea had come in with a bid of £40M he'd have gone and VVD would have been his replacement.

I seriously doubt Van Dijk is arsed about projects at a club 7th in the PL when the continents biggest clubs are beating a path to his door.

I think we're more or less guaranteed Europa this season with a 7th place finish and one of the teams higher in the table winning one/both the cups.

Although we aren't in Europe right now, VVD will see that we're likely to be there next season so that's one positive on top of the fact we'll pay huge money for him.

I just hope that Koeman can persuade him.

I would be pleasantly surprised if we could pull of the signing of Virgil van Dijk. I see him going to an established CL side, most likely on the continent.
It would be a massive statement of intent to get such a coveted player to Goodison, having said that if you gave me a choice between him, at his price and potential sell on value and Manolas I might just go for Manolas.

I would say he is the BEST in the league. Strong, quick, great in the air, good with the ball at his (both) feet, can comfortably bring the ball out of defense, excellent recovery and can pop up with a goal or two. Personally I don't think he has a weak attribute but that's just my opinion.

Considering we got just short of 50M for Stones, IF we did get him then your basically swapping Stones for VVD, (which in theory doesn't effect our original transfer budget), and I know which player I would rather have.

No mate, it was mentioned that both Everton and ManUre were very interested in him but neither had made positive contact at that time.

Was just after Christmas, last I heard was ManUre were "poised" to make a bit, whatever that means
