If this lad's worth 50 mil then transfers have multiplied tenfold in the last decade

A good premier league centre half, that's all. Those saying "this is a signing to make people sit up and take notice" etc have been sniffing MD off Jim White's arse

When clubs get around 100m+ a season from Sky, of course transfer fees are going to multiply, nobody needs money anymore.

Economics 101: If income increases, as do prices.

TV Payments alone have tripled for us over the last decade. Add in the Stones money and we can afford that kind of fee.

For those who have actually watched them both, who's the better player out of Van Dijk and Manolas. Both slightly unrealistic, but if the money was the same, who is the better player? It's got to be more difficult for an Italian side to turn down 40mil than it would be for Saints given the TV money. Also selling to a rival and all that stuff.

Has to be Manolas simply because he is a leader who organizes the defence and has been at the top level for longer...not played in England though so VVD may be a safer option.

Yes probably. Why?

Was just curious mate as to your mindset on it, breaking it down there's zero chance they'd pay remotely the fee being bandied around, similarly they haven't been a CL club with any regularity for a whilst.

Obviously same could be said about us...

I personally think Van Djik would be the sort of Distin-esqu player we desperately need to make a noticable difference in our defence. This is not to say Manolas wouldn't be a quality signing but ultimately I feel we're missing height and strength more than anything in our defence.

Tbh, anyone or anything is better than Funes Mori
