Transfer Rumour Virgil van Dijk

The cry arsing about him is even more boring. But OK, let's threadban Dave for having an opinion and defending that opinion.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion on here, if they aren't what's the point in having a forum? @davek opinions differ to many on here, but he cares passionately about the club and always puts his point across in an articulate way. He was a staunch supporter of Martinez and his methods, which many of us differ to agree with and I think that is why so many people are quick to criticise him. I desperately wanted koeman as our manager as early as last new year, but I will accept he has made mistakes as have the board since his appointment. There is a clearout needed at Everton and there is a way and means to do it. I think koeman has been too critical in the press of certain players (Barkley) but is now toning down the criticism of players as he has admitted he has been 'too honest' in the past. I'm delighted with the purchase of lookman and MS and I feel they both will enhance the team and squad (at the prices paid, you'd hope so). We all hope to a better end to the season results and performance wise, which will hopefully enable to get European football via the league placing. The top 6 was frankly never on, with the squads those teams possess and the money invested in them. However who knows, if we have a 2 good transfer windows, this time next year we could be challenging for a champions league place.

I didn't say that, I'm all for public forum that's why I just ignored him. You'll have to remind me of when I said thread ban him mate because I don't remember saying that

Like I'm reading all that.

I thought the whole point of bringing in Steve Walsh was to find talents without having to pay £40/50 million. Surely there's a centre half better or equal to VVD somewhere across Europe?

I really rate VVD but he's not the messiah of defending.

I think that's part of it mate, also though I'd say it's more about finding players that fit our system. He's just had to do that previously with lesser budgets. I don't think the board are expecting him to craft a team that's capable of winning the league again with a combined spend of 30 million. It's just now he has more wiggle room in identifying his targets

Our defence has been infinitely better this season bar a drubbing from Chelsea. Don't know why everyone thinks it's so bad tbh.

The main cause of our problems is old mam Barry in front of the defence doing sod all.
It's been better yet I think that's primarily down to the style of play we've now adopted, and to a point that masks the deficiencies still present.

In the mainstay Williams has been solid at the back although he's no spring chicken. Jagielka is perished goods and Mori can be hit and miss.

Someone with the traits of van Dijk would produce a fantastic foundation for us to build upon combined with Schneiderlin further forward.

Working with Williams we'd have two strong, resolute defenders who can read the game and still have one who can comfortable play the ball.

To get to the next level, we have to buy proven talent here and now. Schneiderlin snd VVD are those types of players. DCL and lookman are obviously Walsh style players with potentially great futures ahead of them.
