Villa have more won trophies than us and the European Cup.

Doesn't matter. We've finished above them more, been relegated less, never been in Division 3, behaved like a big club far more in terms of setting firsts and money spent, breaking transfer records, etc.

One solitary European Cup, during a two year period, 1980-1982, doesn't make them bigger. A league title in 1981 (their first for 71 YEARS), followed by a European Cup in 1982. They got relegated just 5 years after winning the European Cup, which apart from mismanagement suggests their success wasn't sustainable. Not what I'd call a proper big club and definitely not as big as us.

Lol at spurs
Spurs are pretty strange in that they've won a lot of cups but never found any consistency over a season. I was expecting them to have been close and had a lot of R.U. spots, but they've only finished 2nd four times. So, they've contested and occupied the first two spots of England's top flight just 6 times in 134 years.

That's staggering and shows how flaky they are as an organisation.

'Biggest Clubs' in UK for me;

1. Utd
2. Liverpool
3. Chelsea
4. Arsenal
5. Man City
6. Aston Villa
7. Everton
8. Tottenham
9. Sunderland
10. Newcastle
11. Nottingham Forest
12. Leeds

Based on;
1. Success, 2. Support, 3. Current Standing.

Villa: massive before the First World War then had a purple patch in the early 80s.

That's it.

Bigger historically than most clubs I suppose, but not as big as Everton.

That -----> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_English_football_champions#Total_titles_won

...is the pecking order - the only meaningful way of determining which club are bigger than others.

League titles should count double/treble in all these arguments as that's the acid test of any club. More trophies my backside, 6 pre-war league titles, 5 pre-war fa cups.

I know we sing about our history, but least most of it isn't ancient.

Aston villa > Everton in the league cup.

They are always listed first in any club's list of honours. There's a reason for that.

They've still won more major trophies than us.

The only clubs that wouldn't acknowledge that how many times you've been England's finest as the main reason for a clubs statute and therefore ranking as England's biggest clubs are the clubs who've hardly been in that position.

We have won the league only one time less than Chelsea, City and Spurs have combined.

How many times you've been the best in the land is the barometer, nothing else.

Define major, a six game cup compared to a 38 game league season is hardly a fair comparison.

I know which one I'd rather win. In fact if you offered me 3 consecutive FA Cups or 1 league title it'd be no contest. League champions every time.

Major I would class as League cup, FA cup, League Title and European trophies ( No intertoto crap etc )

I'd class European trophy way higher than League title, that's the pinnacle of club football.

Never get the obsession with these "Big Club" things.

There are probably more "Big Clubs" in the Championship and League 1 than there are in the PL at the moment.

Not sure if Bournemouth are arsed that they are not as "Big" as either Sheffield clubs, Wolves, Forest, Leeds, etc etc etc.
