Took them weeks to come up with the story about what to say with the audio, and that’s the best they can do - a total complete load of bollox.
Corrupt, simply corrupt.
Hilariously weak explanation. I posted before the match ended the excuse would be the ref blew for Maguire, VAR reviewed and decided clear error, penalty overturned. Ref missed De Ligt foul, VAR saw it but deemed it wasn’t a clear error, so did not FORCE the ref to consider it.
That would be still wrong, but would at least be an explanation that was based around their stupid “clear and obvious” based rules. But the waffly explanation given now is even more wrong than that. It’s an explanation and audio that openly shows they don’t really know what’s happening, and have adopted some robotic childish code-speak to sound official and avoid the sort of miscommunication that happened a few months ago.
From the Lord of all refs, we got “Not every foul is a foul. Angles not shown but were shown, and even if they were/weren’t the referee would still have said no foul.” Am sure he initially says we accept that all the angles weren’t shown, then later says they were shown “briefly”. Ref turned away just as the damning angle came on the screen.
Embarrassing for them to admit mistakes after every weekend, but fans would probably accept Webb coming out and saying “Yep, another one we got wrong…..the guidance has now been changed etc etc.” At least try to move it forward.
Get the AI offside thing working properly, keep the goal line tech which is great, then throw the VAR truck in the bin. Take all the money and use it to put at least one extra human ref on the field of play in addition to the linos. Simple; more angles covered in real time. Added bonus of being easy to implement in lower divisions and improve things for them. Watching things at 0.00002% of the speed they occurred can never, ever, ever work for the types of actions they are reviewing.
The worst thing that has happened to any sport ever in terms of accuracy, fan enjoyment, player enjoyment and consistency of outcomes. And it’s entirely self inflicted.
