The 51% currently not owned by Moshiri, if bill sells his remaining shares to Moshiri/Usmanov doesn't that trigger a compulsory purchase for the remaining shares? Dunno I might be wrong

Think 90% is golden figure.

Compulsory acquisition
In the context of a UK takeover offer, where a bidder obtains acceptances of at least 90% of the shares it is offering to buy in the target company (which is not the same as 90% of the total issued share capital) and acceptances of at least 90% of the voting rights carried by the shares it is offering to buy, it can require the remaining non-accepting shareholders to sell their shares on the terms of the offer by following the procedures in sections 974 to 991 of the Companies Act 2006.

think their is two trigger points, one that you've stated which is a CPO, and they have to accept the offer

the other is when taking majority control or something like that which requires them to make an offer based on the value paid for the controlling shares etc - which can be refused

the second Kroenke had to do to Usmanov when he originally took charge at Arsenal - Usmanov obviously refused the offer

Yep, think that 1 is 75%.

Maybe a naive question but in the hypothetical scenario when a minority shareholder, let's say 30%(!), of one club is a majority shareholder in another club and they both qualify for european competition are both sides ineligible or does someone decide which club is excluded?

That bid was made with the full knowledge it'd be rejected.

You have to wonder what the motivation was.

A lot of negative publicity towards Kroenke
Setting a value for any future bidder on the shares at a much higher premium than the current market or previous shares have been sold for
Getting his name out their front and centre and generating a LOT of paper/media coverage and talk

A lot of reasons mate, unlike some people insist - not all of them would point to him being determined about staying as well, could argue it was a final parting shot at kroenke - because if Usmanov leaves in the near future then Kroenke will be getting absolutely hate from the Arsenal fans for a long long time, which wouldn't exactly upset Usmanov

Im not sure you are allowed to own shares in 2 clubs.
