Upcoming Games

We've shown we can beat a good team today without 5/6 first-teamers starting. Mentally, that has to be a real boost.

Not sure really who I'd be putting into the side...obviously would like to win the game but I think without depth in central midfield and attack we should rest those areas as much as possible....I also wouldn't include jelavic or heitinga as would want to sell them.

Distin/McCarthy/Barry/Barkley/Lukaku all rested I would guess.

If we rested all three and Heitinga we would only have Osman in centre midfield. And if we chose not to play Lukaku or Jelavic we'd have to start with Vellios.

West Brom (A)
Stevenage (A)
Liverpool (A)
Villa (H)
Spurs (A)
Palace (H)
Chelsea (A)

Tough run. Given how we performed at Old Trafford and the Emirates hopefully we can win at least one of the big matches and draw the other two. The Hawthorns isn't the stronghold that it has been but you never know what affect Mel might have. We should win the two home games and the cup tie but injuries might take their toll.

This is the test really. We could fall away completely or open up a gap on the sides around us. Exciting and terrifying in equal measure.

West Brom will be tricky.

But Pepe Mel has failed everywhere he's managed except for 2 good seasons at Betis, before getting sacked, with the side drastically cut at the bottom, but new manager affect, how do you prepare?

Liverpool is always 'THE' game to keep your eyes on, every year, every Everton fan bricks it, and then gets false sense of optimism, before being shot to the ground 90 minutes later, it's tough to call, arguably, we're the better team, but then again, we do not have Suárez, and he just terrorised Sylvan every time.

Chelsea - In Great form, and No Lukaku, would be ecstatic with a point as things stand.

Spurs - I don't think they are that great, Palace should of had them buried at half time, they could drop off, dangerous side nevertheless, shouldn't be written off.

Stevenage, Palace and Villa should all be winnable, but Villa is always a bogie team at home, and well lets not forget Sunderland in a hurry, anything can happen.

so i'd take

WBA W
Stevenage W
Liverpool D
Villa W
Spurs D
Palace W
Chelsea L

Well, i mean that's what i expect.

I forgot about that. Well, we'll have to buy a striker now then.

So, possibly no Barkley v Liverpool and no Lukaku v Chelsea. We will need to dig deep to get anything.

I've not included cup games (mostly because I couldn't be arsed) but here are the teams around us fixtures. Some people seem to forget they will be playing too:

Chelsea:

Man United (H)
West Ham (H)
Man City (A)
Newcastle (H)
West Brom (A)
Everton (H)

Arsenal:

Fulham (H)
Southampton (A)
Palace (H)
RS (A)
Man United (H)
Sunderland (H)

Man City:

Cardiff (H)
Spurs (A)
Chelsea (H)
Norwich (A)
Sunderland (H)
Stoke (H)

Tottenham:

Swansea (A)
Man City (H)
Hull (A)
Everton (H)
Newcastle (A)
Norwich (A)

RS:

Villa (H)
Everton (H)
West Brom (A)
Arsenal (H)
Fulham (A)
Swansea (H)

Contrary to what Andy Gray said, I would like to think we could pick up successive wins;

17th AEK Athens (Home)
20th Blackburn (Home)
23rd Hull (Away)
26th Portsmouth (Away)
1st BATE Borisov (Away)
4th Stoke (Home)
17th Wolverhampton (Home)

Before you start saying "Burnley and Fulham...." - Burnley were flying after winning Man Utd and a Fulham away defeat is routine.

I think today will kick our lads right up the arse - like Wigan away did last year.

From our next 5 Prem games I expect 13 points.

Opinions?

Well go on then refresh my memory, how did we do.

If we're still 4 or 5 points off the top come March, then our run in will be massive.

Our last 3 home games are Arsenal, Man Utd and Man City.

If we turn Goodison into a fortress (which it already is, apart the Sunderland blip) and say we take 7 points or more from those games, we will be right in the mix - and not only for a CL place - because we will be taking points off all the sides around us.

The 3 hardest games left for us in the league, on paper, are the 3 aways - Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs.

We need to beat Liverpool in order to get that 4th spot imho. Liverpool have the advantage of playing all of the teams around them at Anfield, where Suarez will get them points from those matches. We on the other hand have to go to White Hart Lane, Stamford Bridge and Anfield.
