upcoming films

Star Wars really is creatively bankrupt, this last trailer just completely hammers it home.

Big universe where you could tell any story, but the Same stuff just rehashed over and over.

Not only that, but in their efforts to just rehash the originals because of their lack of creativity, they end up screwing over the characters and story of the classic trilogy.

Honestly, what they did to Luke Skywalker, (an icon of 20th century culture and cinema) in The Last Jedi was an act of cultural vandalism.

I enjoyed Solo.

Legs it.

I enjoyed that Thandie Newton went around telling everyone how important it was that there was finally a black female character occupying a major role in Star Wars film, before everyone found out that her character was killed off after about five minutes.

The film itself was offensive however.

I hate this nonsensical argument.

The Emperor was the dude in charge when A New Hope started. We didn’t need his back story, because the story was just starting. It had to start somewhere, and he was given plenty of context throughout the OT.

Snoke just appearing out of nowhere despite absolutely no mention of him in the 6 prequels to The Force Awakens, then not explaining who he is or where he came from is just bad storytelling.

It’s like watching a TV series where the big bad guy finally gets taken down after 6 seasons, only for a carbon copy of him to appear out of nowhere in season 7.

Snoke being a "carbon copy" of the Emperor is a complaint that has some merit, but if he is such a copy, then the same criticisms that apply to him must apply to the Emperor. When A New Hope came out there was no back story to him, he appeared "out of nowhere" as much as Snoke did. The story telling in the OG is deserving of the same criticism surely? Would you make the same criticism if the prequels hadn't been made to give him some? What if they make an origin story for him does that all of a sudden make TFA/TLJ better??

Why?

I love people who hate on Star Wars.
Most of the hate on the new films is completely unfounded in most cases. I can understand certain things that people don't like, and there are certainly issues with parts of them, but they are miles ahead of the prequels, and most of the time people can't seem to tell the difference between something being bad and something they just don't like.

Didn't even realise she did that with regards to a black character.
Surely Lando classes as a major black character like ? But not female.

But what do I know.

Not really - he didn't need a backstory in the first three films because people didn't wonder why the Empire had an Emperor at its head. Also the idea that a republic could fall and be replaced by an empire led by a strongman is something that is almost a cliche in most societies, especially in the West - it doesn't really need explaining any more than the idea that young men would risk everything to try to save a princess does.

Snoke (or the First Order) didn't have any of that behind him.
