upcoming films

Thought the force awakens was a last reboot of the franchise. If you could be arsed, you could scene by scene mirror the old films.

That's the issue I have with it. The minute you just accept and be happy to have a star wars film in any note like that then why would anyone care about trying to make it better?

It was lazy, plagerised its own franchise and it set up a whole over arcing story that was far too similar with plot devices aimed at making you care about brand new characters straight away. Compare that to the old films where you invest in a character over the course of the 3 films with genuine character development.

I'm going to watch the last jedi this week , mainly as I've not been enthusiastic about it so far .

TFA does nothing for me, and TLJ I'm completely indifferent about because I didn't care at all for TFA. These are films that are designed from the ground up to mark as many tickboxes in executives' mission briefs as they possibly can. The original trilogy was genre defining, it moved cinema ahead as an art form. I even care more about episodes 1-3 than I do about this set of films. At least with those films Lucas set out because he wanted to tell story. With these films you kinda don't even know what story they're trying to tell.

Genuinely rank Revenge of the Sith just behind Empire Strikes Back in my list of favourite Star Wars films, thought it was effing ace when I saw it in cinema first and still do. NEA

It is hard for anything that follows to be groundbreaking though. You could say the prequel trilogy tried to use ever improving CGI to stand out, but everyone said it wasn't real enough so the TFA was deliberately made to recreate the feel of the original films. To be fair I think they did that and people say about characters but we know these evolved over 3 films, most of us saw films at an impressionable age where this doesn't matter but by the time it did we knew the characters inside out from the complete arc.

I agree with the final part, it appears from the outside that there isn't one person in control and thus it appears messy. But that isn't TFA fault.

So little of the story makes any sense whatsoever. Holdo/Leia not telling Poe the plan, Space Monaco, everything about Benicio del Toro's character, the handling of Luke's character, killing Snoke without explaining who he was etc etc

Why should they tho?
Fair enough if you don't like that section, I didn't mind it.
Like what exactly?
Again, fair enough if you didn't like it.
Did they explain anything about the Emperor in the OT?

I hate this nonsensical argument.

The Emperor was the dude in charge when A New Hope started. We didn’t need his back story, because the story was just starting. It had to start somewhere, and he was given plenty of context throughout the OT.

Snoke just appearing out of nowhere despite absolutely no mention of him in the 6 prequels to The Force Awakens, then not explaining who he is or where he came from is just bad storytelling.

It’s like watching a TV series where the big bad guy finally gets taken down after 6 seasons, only for a carbon copy of him to appear out of nowhere in season 7.
