upcoming films

Genuinely rank Revenge of the Sith just behind Empire Strikes Back in my list of favourite Star Wars films, thought it was effing ace when I saw it in cinema first and still do. NEA
I really like ROTS too. Far from a perfect movie, but a very watchable one, with characters you care about who are put through the grinder, and where significant decisions are made during the course of the story that result in the the universe being irrevocably altered by the end of the film.

They made a huge mistake with the new trilogy that they relied way too much on the characters in the original. Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, as well as the droids. They should have made a clean cut and let the new characters stand or fall on their own merit. Now they are still making the same mistake by bringing Lando back. It's like the script writers don't have any confidence in developing new characters, so they have to wheel out the old guard. It's just lame on so many levels.

It was the one SW film where I really felt the galaxy was huge and existed beyond a few rebel starfighters and the Skywalker family. As you say, not perfect, but was a genuine epic, even Hayden Christensen couldn't eff it up

I've gone back and forth with that over the years but it's overall a bloody good film all things considered. Yeah Hayden Christensen was was pretty bad at times and some of the dialogue was a bit cringe but overall it's a really good film. Anakin's Sith turn was really well done, the duel between Anakin and Obi-wan was epic and Ian McDiarmid's performance as Palpatine was nothing short of brilliant.

This X 10000000000000000000000

Harrison Ford didn't even want to be in the movie and just phoned it in (he wanted to be killed in E6). The rest of it was just a memberberrie wankfest which apparently we are going back to becuase this is all JJ Abrams does. So yea more olds, probably another death star, some stupid emperor ripoff, and lets not forget to put that dumb mask back on Kylo.

EP8 was a mess but a watchable mess. I understand what Rain was trying to do, and that was taking the trilogy away from the past characters but the damage was already done, you can't write them all out in a 2hr movie. He should have been the one to make EP7.

Should have set the damn thing say 50 years in the future. All you needed was Luke (who could have aged slower due to force whatever), also R2 and 3PO are fine, 4 the kidz or something. And instead of having the New Order as this all crushing huge empire they should have been a rag-tag but dangerous terrorist group.

Nope, don’t agree. This wasn’t supposed to be a moving on, it was supposed to be a finish to the story. Have no issue with people disliking aspects of it (as I do myself) but you can’t go way into the future and forget about what has come before.

The idea was right, the execution hasn’t been great. But you’re happy with Luke coming back and the droids, but then you have to explain what has happened to Han, Leia, Chewy. Which creates way more issues when trying to make a story coherent as you have to have loads of exposition.

What happened to them all? Old age? It needs to be explained. Same thing going back to the Snoke issue. This is not a new set of films, it’s supposed to be the culmination of 9 films over 42 years.
