Scott Gemmill.

You heard.

Everyone (rightly) raves about Kevin Campbell coming in and saving us but Gemmill came in at the same time and played really well for the rest of the season and scored a very important goal against Newcastle.

He then got injured, forgotten about and then called crap and ended up in loads of peoples worst ever XI because we are Everton and that's what we do.
He looked like a skeleton he did. But yes I'd add him to the list. And Joe Parkinson if not already mentioned.

When taking in to account the club he came in to though, and the resources available to him, he had a far harder task in achieving those decent league positions than say Martinez, Koeman and now Silva. He didn't inherit a Leighton Baines, Romelu Lukaku or Theo Walcott like those 3 have. He inherited a squad that had finished higher than 12th just once in the previous 10 seasons and had the likes of Simonsen, Pistone and Scott Gemmill to work with.

He came in, steered us away from any relegation threat to have us competing with the top 6 regularly. Something we have struggled to do since he's gone, except for that one season under Martinez who took us from 6th to 5th (albeit through excellent management of the side during that season).

All of this is true and points to him doing a decent job.

The top 4 of Moyes era has now become the top 6. so really we are looking at being in and around the best of the rest which we kind of still are in the mix for.

As I said I think he did alright, well for us in fact, but he is still a loser who has installed a losers mentality.

Correct. Fourteen years wasn't it ? Of standing still.

Nigel Martyn.

Was the main reason we didn't go down in 03/04 and played a massive part in getting us to 4th the season after. If only we'd got him years before like we were meant too, such a top goalkeeper even in his old age.

Another worth a mention is Marcus Bent. Wasn't ever good a player really and actually went full-on terrible after his first season but in that season we finished 4th he had the most thankless job in the league playing up top on his own for us. A lot of other strikers had far more ability but we wouldn't have had the season we had without a runner willing to chase after anything and everything like our Marcus did.

He's been in Gemma Atkinson as well, nothing but respect for the man.

How did we stand still under Moyes if he took us from relegation battlers to among the top 6 regularly, even getting us 4th one season with Marcus Bent up front and players like Kilbane?

That's like saying that Spurs are standing still at the moment...Pochettino came in in 2014, and they'd finished in the top 4 in 2010 and 2012. They still don't win things and they still bottle big games like Semi Finals at Wembley. But everyone knows that although they have only slightly improved on their league positions that they achieved prior to him coming in, they have vastly improved as a side and a club since he arrived.

But no trophies and continued 'failure' to win trophies/big games could be labelled as standing still under him.

Well I was glad to see him go, that first season when Martinez came, was like a breath of fresh air, after seeing the dros we played, year upon year, and he hasn't really showed much since he left, just my opinion like.

Thomas Gravesen.

Immense workhorse in midfield who put in the odd crunching tackle.
