How did Boris do it,was arriving and hand pumping enough to turn back a couple of Russian brigades ?

No, supplying kit to take out tanks did it…no politics, no grandstanding just supplying kit. But actually turning up also gave Ukrainians the belief that the west would support them and stiffen resolve, a key element in any conflict…..

Just see it now Boris the bold, no grandstanding at all, straight across the front on his tripwire, with a flag in either hand, surprised the Russians just didn't surrender, I know you would have Pete...

It‘s time to put your bitterness aside and accept the Boris did a good job for Ukraine. Ukrainians believe he did a good job….

Really interesting graphic from NASA FIRMS. Comparing activity on July 8th v July 12.

Massive decrease in Russian arty/missile strikes. Could be viewed as the impact HIMARS strikes on Ru ammo dumps and staging areas are having.

The Ukes have used them wisely and they are now starting to have an impact on the war.

there are other possibilities, which are not mutually exclusive:

i) a pause (as Putin said there would be) whilst they rest and refit for the battle for the rest of Donetsk
ii) background negotiations taking place - we know about the grain shipment ones but there is some suggestion others may be happening (the withdrawal from Snake Island, Zelensky's somewhat odd comment that the million-man army would be used to liberate the south of the country (ie: not the republics), the gas turbine thing).

Absolutely. Could very well be an operational pause. My take is that Ru army would IMO be pushing forward in the East to complete their primary objective, so if it is an “operational pause” then you’ve got to ask yourself why? As you say it could be the result of ongoing background talks or it could be that it’s a forced “operational pause” due to Ukraine seriously interdicting the Ru supply and logistics chain.

I would be inclined to go with the latter reason, given the information we have of multiple Ukranian strikes on Ru supply and logistics hubs. Compared against a possibility of secret background talks of which we have no knowledge.

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck then it likely is a duck.

Why is an operational pause so hard to believe? Slow, methodical advance is working for them, and most importantly Putin openly said that was what was going to happen.

It’s not hard to believe. It should however be viewed as either.

A/ A planned operational pause

B/ A forced operational pause due to the Russian scruffs running out of arty rounds and potatoes.

I’d go with with option B

It's not hard to believe, but as @Mutzo Nutzo mentioned it's the reasoning and rationale behind it. Is it a choice, enforced or a combination of the two.

If the snippets coming out are to be believed, the RA could be starting to run quite low on a number of key munitions and replacement troops aren't reliable.

This slow, methodical advance is having its benefits for Russia in terms of territory gained, but it's also at their great expense, which they may struggle to maintain.

Don't think their resolve needed stiffening. The fear of being swallowed up by Putin would deal with that. Did he supply the kit personally or was it the MOD? When I last looked the UK didn't have an autonomous president and those decisions were taken by the cabinet. Let's be honest he took trips to Kiev for photo ops when the heat was ramped up at home as he was caught out more and more for lying. His second rate sad Churchill impressions fooled nobody.

There seem to be contradictory reports about arms kicking around the media, only a few weeks ago on the Beeb's Unspun World,John Simpson was interviewing a military specialist who quoted a Nato source that as well as the Ukraine, Nato themselves were low on basic stockpiles of small arms ammunition whereas Russia had huge reserves. And that the US are playing catch up with hypersonic missiles that both Russia and China already have in operation. Very surprised that the Beeb ran that as they normally only run with the pro Nato anti Russia China narrative. Sad to say this more and more appears to look like a long drawn out slog with Russian resources being drained by manning the new borders that will be drawn when the Ukraine inevitably has to give up land for peace and will carry on a hit and run strategy between ceasefires.

I doubt the slow methodical approach is coming at a significant expense. They couldn't stall the offensive for the last 2 months or bring them to peace talks.

It's also strategically unwise to flaunt your success as it might erode public support in the west.
Zelensky mocked Russia's problems with ageing equipment. Not very wise as the brunt of the sanctions, with gas prices set to go through the roof, is yet to hit western Europe. If anything, concentrate on their cruel treatment of the local population and their barbaric ways of waging war.

It's good to see western contributions making an impact but don't boast about it. Keep it low key and hit them where it hurts.
