Mate, we used (relied) on them heavily during Herrick to the point some batteries were temporarily re-issued with them to defend places like FOB Inkerman.

In terms of use, I'm sure there's currently seven regiments that have them including my local battery (208th, Liverpool Gunners, 103 RA).

It's shown in Ukraine, like it did with us over in Afghanistan, how vital close artillery support is for infantry on the ground, so depleted stocks is worrying.

We're short on the stuff the current troops need, so it's be frightening if we had to mobilise rapidly.
I hear ya. Certainly don’t doubt the L118’s impact during Herrick as well as the Falkland’s. I wasn’t aware it was still in use with TA units. I know that regular RA moved to 155 and GMLRS very soon after Herrick wrapped up.

The whole stores and logistics thing is a massive issue for us and other NATO armies. It’s one of the biggest takeaways from the Ukraine war. We need to stockpile and we need to forward base ammo and equipment.

Putin got a taste when he took the Crimea. He saw the West do nothing. Now he wants to carve up the rest of Ukraine.
I doubt the NATO countries have the stomach to deter him with military force.
I suppose the question will be, where will he go next?

we have much less now than then, pete

I know and I think it’s a disgrace, but getting the ‘mix’ right between services and the balance of equipment expenditure versus actual and potential and emerging threats is incredibly difficult. We should though, be spending 3-4% of GDP on defence imo……..

Isn't it about the numbers needed to protect the sovereignty of the UK,if there was ever a war between NATO and Russia ( or China) highly doubt it would be fought with conventional weapons for very long.

They're collapsing as a result of sanctions.
Who? Gazprom?

Who just had a windfall tax put on them due to record profits?

Or who just had a 5th (in a few months) senior exec end up dead yesterday in another apparent suicide.

In fact it's worth reading up on Gazprom as there's some really strange things going on with them that isn't being covered, or at least I missed it if it has been.
