asked this to pro Russian friend of mine a few minutes ago, his response:
''The reason is very simple. Mobilization means not just more troops. Mobilization also means the death of normal economy.
This war will go into economic territory soon. And preserving normal economy is paramount.
Cold season will come in no time and Ukraine will greet it with no food or energy or fuel. 150K is enough to keep it going until then ( and yes, some reinforcements are being readied ). Cold season will do the rest. Putin does not want to just militarily defeat Ukraine. It needs to be obliterated from within.''
they are playing the long game
Covert mobilization has been going on in Russia for a long time. Also all mobilized need to be dressed, shod, armed, trained, so Russia will not go for it. Experts say that they can do it with a maximum of 400 thousand people. especially as experience and practice have shown they will face logistical hell in any case - Russia will die faster Economically cause we have a lot of western help, they not. This doesn't make any sense. Occupying or invading troops are going to suffer worse from lack of warmth and food than residents in cities with open supply lines to the west and aid flowing in.

I was just coming on here to discuss their fate. While I totally understand their surrendering, it’s a coup vlad, he gets Mariupol and the Azov boys who were a major part of his reasoning for this whole war. I really cannot see them being released without issue and the loss of the port city really does tighten the noose in that areaGood to see the the Ukrainians surrender in Mariupol. It was horrid knowing they were suffering they can finally get food and treatment in Russian custody.
Can just hope with it being a high profile capture that they will atleast be contained until the war is over and kept alive and in health. Putin is a merciless psycho but he might want to subvert expectations with the high profile nature of this.I was just coming on here to discuss their fate. Yes, I was hoping the same, but given their supposed treatment of Russians living in Ukraine and the fact that they have been taken to a special prison for “questioning”, I’m just not convinced. I also read that it was suggested they should be executed. Can just hope with it being a high profile capture that they will atleast be contained until the war is over and kept alive and in health. This is what I was thinking. It could be seen as the “de-naztification” he had previously claimed as his reason for the war. Seems an awful lot Death and devastation for a few hundred soldiers thoughAll comes down to whether you believe Putin's spokesman who said they would be exchanged ASAP or 2 guys in the Duma who want them tried and imprisoned or worse.
To be honest, I have a feeling this could be the off-ramp. Putin gets to claim a win, Ukraine a bigger one, Russia is back in it's box for a decade having managed to weaken itself economically, politically, militarily and strategically in just 3 short months.
Depends if anybody really wants a years long war they can't win.
