My point is they wont see it as the destruction of Moscow, they will see it as beating the West.

Judging by the state of their kit, I wouldn’t want to be the one pushing the launch button in one of their silo’s…Ka-boom!

Maybe. But they, the military folk, will have seen the same that this thread has shown up, plus tons more.

If Vlad allows one nuke to come over, the response will, at first, be in proportion. Helsinki for Moscow for example. So, would the launch procedure get past that equation, which will be considered, by a chain of command, who (I hope), are reasonably sane?

Talking to a guy who works at an AWE and he said a couple of things that surprised me, one of which being that there wouldn't be a proportional response. If a missile was launched at the UK, then basically the whole lot gets launched back at Russia. I'm not totally convinced he's in a position to know such stuff but he claimed that as there's no effective early warning system, that's the strategy.

The problem is, I dont think Putin and Medvedev care if the nukes go the other way, their families will be in a non-nuclear country and they are "safe" underground. MAD is only factor when both sides care about the mutual bit.

Then they would be hunted. Going underground wouldn't be living the life of Reilly anymore. They would be found and taken out. Nowhere to hide today.

There’s a certain establishment on the North Yorkshire moors that would detect ballistic missile launches from subs or anywhere tbh.

Should give us 4 minutes warning. More than enough time to knock one out.

I don't think how close the subs are matters as the missiles basically go into space on route to their targets I believe.
