Can anyone see Russia’s point of view? Last thing they’d want is for a neighbouring country to become part of NATO?

This isn't just because of Ukraine's application to join NATO. That little circle doesn't come close to being a major issue for Russia. This same retaliation would not occur if Finland were to join NATO. This has a lot to do with Putin getting his approval score up by trying to restore some pride to Russia following the collapse of the USSR.

Putin and Russia's action ends the pretence of the sovereignty of nations within Europe. The UN like the League if Nations pre WWII is proven to be an ineffective talking shop. The USA is the only bulwark against the expansionism of the former communist and former communist states Russia and China, Taiwan maybe next. Iran too has its eyes on firing up the middle East. These are worrying times, the general world prosperity post WWII could be ending and a phase of war, the likes of which this generation has never seen could be dawning.

Defence spending has always been the easy target when other needs must, especially amongst the heavily dependant continental European countries who heavily rely on the US to bail them out for free. Only Britain and France spend anything notable on defence.

We need a strong presence in Washington, unfortunately we have Biden.
And Fox News.

Not sure it has anything to do with an 'approval score' when he simply rigs elections

"In my 41st year of peacetime service I would not have believed that I would have to experience another war," he wrote. "And the Bundeswehr, the army that I am allowed to lead, is more or less blank. The policy options we can offer in support of the Alliance are extremely limited."
British troops are returning to Germany after the planned ending of our deployment in 2019. This is at the request of the German government.

They're even helping to fund the archaic infrastructure that we left behind, which suggests a change in direction from Berlin.

Yeah, but wot about Corbyn?

Since he's started this 'fight' for Russia against Ukraine his approval has skyrocketed. He's narcissistic, this fuels him.

Putin doesn't need approval, he'll do what he wants and has done for however long he's been in power. There's more to this than just him having an ego boost.
