I've noticed the Russians keep complaining that the pace of negotiations is moving to slowly for them, surely they should be waiting till after they deploy the 'full' weight of their force to negotiate from a position of strength.
Unless of course the problems within their military are worse than what's been exposed so far, be interesting to see what affects the counterattacks have.
A large number of Russian BTG’s are at 70-75% strength. They have been propped up with raw conscripts and poor quality replacement equipment. Russia cannot keep losing manpower and equipment at the current rate of attrition so it’s no surprise that they want to end this soon and with the minimum acceptable criteria of a land bridge between Russia and Crimea/ Sea of Azov control.

Ukraine just needs to hold on for another month, keep killing Russians and keep destroying their armoured vehicles and they will then have a much stronger negotiating position.

I think it's a mistake to ban Russian players from Wimbledon. They could be useful in getting the attention of the Russian people to what is happening.

I'm pretty sure the Russian people are already aware of what is going on in Ukraine. They back Putin very strongly on what he is doing and there seems little evidence of this changing any time soon. I would expect any Russian tennis players would behave exactly the same. If they didn't they would be ostracised, or worse, back home.

Not true.

I'd like to have the same positivity as you but for the last 8 years we've been supplying the Ukranians with state of the art weapons etc along with extensive training for their massive army. They've lost the important strategic city of Mariupol. It looks like Khersons gone and it doesn't look good in Donbass either.

The Russians look increasingly likely to have all of the east and South Ukraine because once they've got Donbass sorted then its onto Odessa.

The reality on the ground is extremely concerning and there's nothing positive apart from the odd Russian tanks or soldiers obliterated.
I can understand Zelensky and the politicians along with our media publishing narratives of heroism and how we're really giving it to the Russians but it all seems a facade. We're losing and quite badly.

Not true.
There's a lot of disinformation, influencing of votes and even vote rigging; Putin's regime has built a system where there's a natural lack of transparency.

Nevertheless, sadly the fact is that he's still a popular and well voted-for politician in Russia who, according to those in the know, would still likely win.

That's why my sympathy for Russia as a whole doesn't extend as much as it probably should because he's nowhere near losing his grasp on power yet.

Who is "we"?

Putin obviously didnt fire 20+ generals and arrest 100+ member of the FSB because things were anything other than the worst disaster of his reign, murdering and raping a couple cities full of civilians doesnt give Russia a "win".

Let’s hope this is the first of many speaking out......
All these Oligarchs are rotten and corrupt to the core, and utterly despised by ordinary Russians. I read that majority cheered over there when their yachts and properties were taken away in the West.

If nothing else Putin gonna use this opportunity to remove "untrustworthy" Oligarchs, and majority of ordinary Russians gonna cheer for it, despite of course he is deeply in collusion with them.

They are indeed, yet the issue is that with their wealth and influence (many have ties to specific regions or industries) they could be used as leverage.

If there were to be enough of his cronies (before talking about his closest inner circle) who built up a wave of pressure, the Kremlin may be forced to budge.

But then again, previous Putin friendly oligarchs who've fell out with the Kremlin have been jailed or murdered, so that may not be as likely as we'd wish.

Ordinary Russians have nothing to lose, and people with nothing hate seeing rich people flaunting their wealth. The “untrustworthy" Oligarchs have had their cosy westernised lifestyles severely disrupted, so rather than be in deep collusion with Putin, I really hope they’re secretly plotting his assassination.

Are you Ukranian? As you keep using the term we.

The Ukes are hurting the Russians and making them pay for every mile of ground they take.

Russia cannot live with their current attrition rate of troops and equipment. This will end in a negotiated settlement, it has to. Ukraine needs to be in a position to not concede further territory in the Donbas region. Admittedly they will lose Mariupol but I think Odessa will be safe. It’s a step to far for Russia. They just need to dig in and survive for another month or so and keep doing what they’re doing.
