Ive got a Russian friend, I link him things and he calls it all bull, in his words "Dont believe what the Western media tell you", utterly brainwashed.

The problem with this analysis is that he isn’t necessarily that wrong. The Western, and especially the British, media really cannot be trusted that much more than the Russian media can.

There is no better example of that than Johnson himself, a man who is continually boosted despite a horrific record as PM and an entire career worth of lies. Even over Ukraine the focus has been on the toughness of his rhetoric rather than the effectiveness of what he has actually done, or even what is happening in Ukraine.

No he hasn’t. He’s not taken part in any diplomatic efforts to end the war, refused to give them certain types of weapons they asked for, and didn’t want to be a guarantor of their independence in any peace deal.

He has sent them British weapons, true (though worryingly there is still no reversing those defence cuts), organised some sanctions (the effects of which are still extremely questionable) and opened his mouth a lot.
The deputy head of the Ukrainian president's office, Andriy Sybiha, said.......
"The UK is the leader in defence support for Ukraine. The leader in the anti-war coalition. The leader in sanctions against the Russian aggressor," he added.

But this is all bollocks according to you, as you’re obviously better informed than Andriy.

I don’t know if you’ve ever tried this, but please read the post you are responding to.

If you did, you’d see what it was I was objecting to when Pete said the UKs support was “unwavering”. Our support is not unwavering and it has limits, quite clear limits as it happens.

Ah, your usual condescending reply. And then in your next post, just just above mine, you’re now telling us “The Western, and especially the British, media really cannot be trusted that much more than the Russian media can.”

That statement is probably the most ridiculous thing I’ve read in this entire thread. So what is happening in Ukraine? Do tell.

When he does that, re link it with Al Jazeera or India Today, non western media sources but they normally post similar content.

Reason is likely western media isn't quite as biased as people think

Latest from my Ukrainian friend:

Hi, sorry for not replying for so long. There were a lot of work. Unfortunately, the atrocities that you saw are not all, we have many such small towns with a similar situation. You know, I already react less to such terrible photos, since I live in a country where there is a war, I'm used to the bombing. Unfortunately, I know many stories about the dead people, they were friends of my boyfriend. Now sanctions against the Russian Federation are extremely important, especially the rejection of oil and natural gas, so that the budget of the aggressor country is not financed and this country must be excluded from all international organizations.

So that’s two posts of mine you haven’t read fully. I explained why our media is dubious too.

As for what’s happening in Ukraine is that the Russians have invaded it. We need to do everything to try and restore peace, and that includes talking more (and more seriously) with the Russians. We also need to acknowledge that their unjustified and unsanctioned use of force is something we’ve been guilty of in the past, and most of all we need to help all the countries that are going to suffer because of this invasion.

Really? Western Media is sometimes misleading but Russian news is on a whole different level.

While I'm not suggesting that our mainstream media is the most fair and transparent, I do feel there's a sizeable difference between the two.

I don’t - look at what they’ve been putting out, what they’ve done to people, what they’ve done to the West.

Look at the form the media is taking, with commentators and wind-up merchants long since having seen off the actual news. This is seen on all sides of the media, left and right.

I mean Tucker is liberally cited over in Russia and he is employed by the same bloke who dominates the media over here too. Look at how their media and ours bangs on about cancel culture, various different types of “others”, tells people to be scared, tells us we’ve got to go to war to deal with this threat the government are telling us about.
