Here's a podcast recorded Sunday with a Ukrainian lady who left Kyiv the day the invasion started to get to Lviv with her children. She translates for a guy still in Kharkiv under constant bombing and shelling from Russian forces; she tells of looting by Russian forces and the horrible images from Bucha. She speaks quickly but, it's worth a listen to hear directly how things are in Ukraine at present as she prepares to send her children to the UK on Tuesday having gotten them visas.

And an earlier podcast in which she tells of leaving Kyiv and helping others to escape from the early advances of invading Russians...

Bucha , On Newsnight with Kirsty Walk right now.
Its a firm no from me thanks lads.

Did my time at Rotten.com back in the day, thats enough for a lifetime.

Indiscriminate murdering of civilians comes as no surprise. I am hoping we don’t see a repeat of the Nazi’s hanging civilians from lampposts on their way out.

There are shouts above about how can the Russian people support this, it’s simple, they don’t, or haven’t seen it, or worse have seen it and been given a different story. Head over to Cuba, take a trip off the tourist trail and the population in the local bars believe the USSR was victorious in the Cold War, all depends on how the spin is told by the media.

Those poor souls taken in Bucha, and throughout this whole war - what an absolutley desperate, needless waste and loss of life.

Even the Russian losses are stupid and unneccassary, but their leader caused this disgrace to happen.

We and the leaders in the west should be ashamed of ourselves and our response, for allowing these war crimes to take place and for this whole shitshow to rumble on for as long as it has.

The people of Ukraine deserved so much better than what they have got from us.

I depsie how low humanity can stoop for money or land or whatever other piffling trivial nonsense we fight over - we should be all focused on sorting the planet out for our future generations so that we have a place to be in this universe - not that we deserve one.

God help my kids in this shitty world I've brought them into.

Fair do's to you.

As gruesome and horrific as they are the whole world needs to see these barbaric acts , this cannot and hopefully will not be brushed under the carpet.

And yet, somehow, we know they will……ffs half the people on here are blaming Boris Johnson…..

Just watched a film about Richard Feynman’s role in the inquiry into the Challenger disaster. There was a quote at the end that really resonated with me for how this crisis needs to be seen (obviously he was talking about technology, but I think the quote works for diplomacy here):

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for nature cannot be fooled."

BERLIN (Reuters) - German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, long an advocate of Western rapprochement with Russia, expressed regret for his earlier stance, saying his years of support for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline had been a clear mistake.

Steinmeier, a Social Democrat who served as Foreign Minister under Chancellor Angela Merkel before being elevated to the presidency, said Russia’s invasion of Ukraine meant he and others had to reckon honestly with what they had got wrong.

“My adherence to Nord Stream 2 was clearly a mistake,” he said. “We were sticking to a bridge in which Russia no longer believed and which other partners had warned us against.”……

Not really arsed about Boris Johnson tbh , he's hell bent on portraying himself as a world statesman. ( something he'll never be )
He & his govt are making a right pigs ear of the Ukraine refugee crisis.
They've been in the pockets of the Oligarch's for years , and I wouldnt trust them as far as I could piss on them.

Putin and his cohorts have got to be held accountable for these attrocities.
