Quite. Stability, protect interests etc.

But that's most political alliances. All are grubby. I guess it all comes down to which version of the world you feel most comfortable with or in.
And the lies and propaganda (on a demostic level) them governments sell to subdue its people with that comfort. All the while corporate interest big money manipulates.

It's a defensive pact between western nations- came about after WW2 with the onset of the cold war.

However, it's come to involve countries that the USA, UK arguably wouldn't protect. I.e those right next to Russia.

NATO approved in principle Ukraine joining in 2014; Russia invaded Crimea shortly afterwards.

Membership also deemed ( by some inc Russia, China, and no doubt some in the West ) to be part of the western liberal democratic ideal, protecting as it does fledgling European democracies against Totalitarian neighbours.
Arguably? If they weren't prepared to protect them, they wouldn't have been accepted into NATO. Both the UK & USA could easily veto any country joining NATO that they weren't willing to protect.

Jonas Gahr Støre don't you think you are flying under the radar at Norway.

You are complicit.

Someone needs to tell these 'journalists' that they're saying the quiet bit really loudly:

This sort of argument always seems a bit irrelevant to me if you were on the wrong end of any sort of bomb. What difference does it make if you are blown to smithereens by a conventional bomb or a vacuum bomb? They are all bad ?‍♂️

It'll help to topple Russia. And not by nato and governments as such. Also more importantly topple this style of capitalistic 'democracies' in a working class (the people) overthrow.

And have real democracy. No one wants war as much as no one wants to live pay check to pay check and become a slave if they need medical care. And all the rest of the domestic issues.

Jebus, its like arguing with Jeremy from Peep Show.

Watching new footage from battle of Hostomel airport, Jesus Christ, what a grim scene, body parts lying everywhere.
Russian army probably thought this gonna be walk in a park, but instead it turned into brutal ww2 style meat grinder, and it only gonna get worse.
When supposed superior army start suffering losses like this, they gonna get even more frustrated and all gloves gonna be off, this unfortunately gonna turn into total carnage.

Can’t see it being allowed to carry on… entire towns and villages are being flattened.

Only a matter of time before outside military intervention in my opinion.

Collective self-defense.

Ukraine is not part of NATO, so we're not defending it. We're sending materiel and trying to make Putin's grip on power less secure.

The nuclear plant issue may cause a bit of a rethink.
Sorry, it was a bit of rhetorical question…. I’m just shocked by their inaction considering this will end up being a direct threat to them
