It almost makes you yearn for the peak insanity of the Coronavirus thread, when anyone who set foot outside the door, in any capacity whatsoever, instantly became guilty of mass MURDER and any dissenters, ran the risk of being hung from the nearest lamp post.

My other half's sister is a student at one of the Universities in Cluj-Napoca. She's been supporting a group who have been heading up to the the Romanian- Ukraine border by Sighetu Marmației.

Apparently the poor folk headed over are utterly shell shocked, confused and extremely mustrustful (no surprise). Huge problem with a lack of translators, especially for the older generation who might not speak English, Hungarian or German (which tend to be the common second or third languages taught out that way). So the incoming refugees are stressed and panicky and its hard to calm or comfort them, not to mention guide them through practical stuff.

Sounds horrific.

The Chechen conflict, over a region which meant far less to the average Russian than Ukraine, dragged on for years, with the most savage fighting since WW2.
