I think he's been made out to be a hero but when I've looked at some of his previous policies I'm not exactly sure he's a brilliant guy.

But, right now, he's leading a valiant and justified defence of his country and doing so admirably.
I'd argue that none of that matters right now.

Swap roles and would Boris Johnson be taking up arms against an invader?

Running a country is far easier than defending it.

I can understand someone playing Devil's advocate but your veiled support for Russia is worrying.
* The Center for Combating Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine asks all supporters of Ukraine to adhere to the following rules when protecting the information front: *

? Don't waste your time arguing with bots. They do their job for which they receive money, and some of the accounts automatically generate misinformation using artificial intelligence.

? Focus your energy on posting on social media about the real state of affairs, especially for Russians, as access to truthful information is almost completely limited.

? Support the spirit of our Army! Write words of gratitude, encourage Ukrainians! Our unity is very valuable now. ??

? If you speak foreign languages, make posts for foreign audiences, communicate with and distribute familiar administrators of groups and channels in other countries.

? Don't forget to complain about information terrorists.

* Let's fight #infoteror together! *
* Everything will be Ukraine! *

Knox County elected a professional wrestler? Things have changed there, I see.
They have, and for the worse, but maybe not quite as much as his election would make it seem. Knoxville’s city mayor is a democrat who seems to be pretty sensible, particularly with her handling of the pandemic. It’s the outlying rural and suburban areas that only vote in our county elections that put Glen in office.

A private army could go in backdoor funded by Governments or individuals / companies.
May be in a Hollywood blockbuster that might work but in the real world not a chance (unfortunately)! Possibly more realistically the top brass in the military actually realise he’s bonkers, deluded and dangerous and do something, or the sanctions being imposed actually really start to bite and the general population turn in such numbers that the riot squads can’t throw make them all disappear and the politicians and military oust him!
We can only hope though!

Not sure if you are British based... WW2 is often peddled out for the flag waving facist as in UK stood alone . Having spent some time in Berlin pre 2010, was interested with the amount of Russians visitors and their obsession with the defeat of Nazi Germany good thing yes, but this was a different level of glorification, in what they term "The Great Patriotic War".
This is not war that is remembered in the same way as it is the West. They literally live it from early school years as if it had happened in the last decade, and I'm pretty sure its to install fascist beliefs. No coincidence Putin drops Nazi into his rhetoric when speaking about the Ukraine.
Absolutely true this.

Good read. Found it interesting how he said at the end of the article that with the sanctions, it would only be “a few years” before the country falls on hard times. Is it realistic they can hold out that long completely cut off from the rest of the world? I hadn’t really seen anybody saying it would take that long to really start putting the squeeze on them.

When I was in Tehran in 2015 we couldnt pay a thing using our credit card (visa) is it the same in Russia atm? or not that far fetched yet? Do credit cards work?

No idea if there is some other branded card that is widely used in Russia, but it appears as if it’s almost impossible to use one the cards we’re most familiar with.

Boris getting grilled by a Ukrainian journalist who gets very upset about why the UK aren’t helping Ukraine more is one of the most awkward things I’ve ever seen him trying to reply to and let’s be honest he has previous in bad replies
