And...........?

As far as Russian people are concerned, Germany attacked them, invaded huge areas of their country, and caused the deaths of 20 million or more Russian soldiers and civilians, together with massive destruction. I'm not remotely saying that this is right, or even rational, but there is this widespread feeling in Russia, I believe.
No, there isnt. The idea that the german invasion in WW2 is, in the mind of average russians, the fuel for their thinking western europe is a great threat is just a personal false view, and in all my learning and reading from russian cultural experts Ive never seen it put forward. Its also why Putin doesnt put forward that agenda when he endlessly spins his lies and reasons to his subjects.

No, the widespread feeling among average Russians isnt even that western europe is a threat. Its that the USA is, and thats why NATO is a threat. Putin makes up lies and tells people things again and again in the hopes some people will believe him and then justify his insane actions for him. And clearly it works enough, at least for a very small minority, while 90% of everyone else just looks at him as unhinged as no rational person would ever think NATO has any designs to invade a country.

You are truly despicable.

Tbf, @Kev The Rat spends all his days on here now being edgy. I was genuinely just wondering whether it was right to keep laughing at him because the more he posts, the more he paints a picture of a strange, lonely creature with v little happening for him elsewhere. I hope he's alright #PrayForKev

Most of that is not far off the truth - except I dont think only 10% believe NATO is a threat.

I still think there is absolutely zero chance they gonna use chemical weapons. His excuse is that he coming to liberate them from their "Nazi" government.
And there is a world of difference between doing it against Ukrainians in Europe than ISIL or rebels in Syria
This is the a fella who has just invaded a neighbour and threatened anyone who calls it out with nukes so you never know what he thinks is reasonable.

Well, I can agree that the US is perceived as a threat, and if there were no US, then NATO/Europe wouldn't be perceived as threatening to Russia, because it would simply be too weak. On the other hand, I know Russian people genuinely who feel, and know people with more Russian contacts than I who'd concur, that the threat starts at the geographical interface between Russia and western europe. Even though they don't intellectually believe NATO tanks will come rolling over their border in the foreseeable, they have a gut level unease, and would be much happier with a buffer of Russian-dominated, or at least neutral, states between them and 'the west', notably including the USA.
