Politics. Or 'current affairs'. We've never really got to grips with how best to handle this discussion on here. This is a new initiative we're trialing for a month. If it works, sound. If it doesn't - we go back to;

My own view is that we're a football forum and politics divide and cause needless angst that is detrimental to the community. Approaching 10 years in February, we've always tried to discourage political threads because of the the outcome is typically a negative one.

Still, GOT is a unique beast - lots have asked for a place to discuss current affairs and this is our 'But Ok...' and we'll review. It's your platform and it's down to you to make it work.

Our advice to make this forum work;
  • Don't be a tit.
If you are, your account will be denied access to this current affairs forum.

God speed.

[UPDATE - 2nd April 2019]

A couple of years on and the 'Current Affairs' forum has been a success. When we asked, 100% in a poll wanted it to stay.

Recently, we've had a couple of incidents were one or two have been a little overzealous or emotional - it's a real shame when some allow politics/current affairs to spoil their experience on GOT.

A reminder then that The Current Affairs forum is largely unmoderated. Our moderators take a step back from moderating. We won't/can't moderate this forum as we do the rest of the site, nor will we allow it to monopolise our time.

If we find anyone who finds this forum a bit too much, they become high maintenance and generally not suitable for this forum, we'll revoke their access to the current affairs forum.

A reminder that we also ask that issues within the Current Affairs forum, stay within Current Affairs forum. 'Leave it at the door'

@Kev The Rat clearly breaching forum rules here

Kharkov is about 30 mins from the Russian border dispute multiple attempts they haven't managed to hold for more than a couple of hours before getting their asses handed to them.
Assess handed to them would involve the Russian army being ejected from Ukraine - they havent by any means.

The only reason cities havent been taken is because of an unwillingness by Russian forces to commit more firepower.

I'm not gonna let people get away with BS, like 'the Ukrainians are winning the war', when their entire country is under siege and on the brink or actually in a massive humanitarian crisis.
YES KEV! I think you need to drop some sanctions on people. Do it, bankrupt Bungle!

Or start some form of 'Thread Crimes Tribunal'.

Let people get away with stuff, I ask you ?

Don’t exaggerate, the entire country is not under siege. Putins still struggling to get into parts of eastern Ukraine. With all the equipment and supplies being provided by the EU/nato, a push back from the west of the country won’t be far away.

I had a feeling when Ukraine officially ordered over 18 and under 60 citizen males cant leave and have to fight was Russian propaganda.
Ukrainian news reported this too, Ukrainian volunteers/ conscripts are given 90 days to report to recruitment stations, unless they wish to go earlier.

This also stops Russians from crossing the boarders in civilian clothes.
