At the risk of sounding pro - Russian again, lets look at it from his position

For all his rhteoric about everyone taking up arms etc, civilian, casualites on his side have stayed remarkably low, because Russia hasn't gone in as hard as it could.

Maybe he wants to keep it that way?

They've already killed hundreds of innocent civilians during an invasion of a sovereign country.

That they haven't yet killed thousands isn't a plus for Putin.

Launching a nuclear weapon as a response to sanctions would be an insane escalation... I don't think (at least, I hope) the Kremlin have lost their marbles that much.
