This could severely hamper comrade Steveski posting on the Western worlds foremost football forearm and purveyor of jigsaws.

I was assuming he was posting all his promotional "gooooo Russia!" stuff because of the internal surveillance as well.

Isn't that how the internet generally works, ie: as a potential tool for mass surveillance?

Well sure, but one usually doesn't expect government retribution for posting certain content along the lines of "[the government internet media agency] ...worked to unmask and surveil people behind anti-government accounts and provided detailed information on critics’ online activities to security agencies.”

Very sad.

"Two sources in air defence units told the Guardian the deficit at the front has become so acute that the general staff has ordered already-depleted air defence units to free up more men to send to the front as infantry.

“It’s reaching a critical level where we can’t be sure that air defence can function properly,” said one of the sources, saying he had been prompted to speak out by a fear that the situation was a risk to Ukraine’s security.

“These people knew how air defence works, some had been trained in the West and had real skills, now they are sent to the front to fight, for which they have no training,” said the source.

A series of interviews with Ukrainian officers, who spoke anonymously, given the sensitivity of the issue, paint a worrying picture for Ukraine’s war effort.

“The people we get now are not like the people who were there in the beginning of the war,” said one soldier currently serving in Ukraine’s 114th territorial defence brigade, who has been stationed in various hotspots over the past two years. “Recently, we received 90 people, but only 24 of them were ready to move to the positions. The rest were old, sick or alcoholics. A month ago, they were walking around Kyiv or Dnipro and now they are in a trench and can barely hold a weapon. Poorly trained, and poorly equipped,” he said.

I fear that the Zelensky cabal are going to lower the age of conscription to 18. There's no other way if they dont accept whatever peace deal Trump comes up with.

For everyone's sake, kids as young as that should be spared being thrown into a meat grinder.

Whichever way it comes from it needs ending this war.

To countenance sending kids to a front line is intolerable. That's the line that cant be crossed.
What that means of course is authoritarians such as Putin who are willing to send them always win.
If Britain, the US, Russia et al didn't in WWII how would that have ended?
It is sad af but drawing that line grants an easy victory condition to Putin

...which was always going to be the case, as many of us argued.

The war has been an utter waste of human life for that reason. It was un-winable for Ukraine unless they could snare NATO forces into the conflict. That was never likely as the US and European leaders dont want mushroom clouds all over central and eastern Europe.

Shocking take tbh
Just give the aggressor what they want, that won't leave the world for the taking by lunatics at all

It's realpolitik not morality.

Look at this from the Guardian this morning:

In polling the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) has shared with me in advance, Ukrainians are asked if to end the war they could (albeit with difficulty) accept the combination of economic reconstruction and EU and Nato membership for the current territory. In just the past six months, the proportion saying yes has jumped from 47% to 64%.

Thats a people looking desperately for a way out of this war. They know their own government have gambled and lost and now they must accept the reality of defeat and loss of territory.

They're not going to get NATO membership, btw, but there's no stomach for the fight anymore. They've given up their lives for 3 years and many of their families and friends too.

It's all politics and daft kids on social media who want this war to carry on NOT the people who live in Ukraine. They want a deal...almost any deal that stops this carnage and hands them back their lives.
