Invading Russia is not self defence though, by any stretch. That is also an act of aggression (just as Putin's was in invading Ukraine).
Nato is a major problem. Many of it's allies have woeful human rights records.
Ukraine are losing this war. That is going to continue, and they will need to negotiate a deal. That is their best outcome.
They do have a right to defend themselves. And they have a right to invade another country too, but it's an act of aggression.
I'm not trolling, I am an anti-war activist and want the war to come to an end before more people needlessly die.
Putin is not looking at this 'emotionally'. He clearly had a target and is constantly looking at this like a chess board -- a game in which he will use his resources to win.
He isnt looking at this concerned about his own people dying -- they are resources.
There is nothing else than a show of strength that will knock Putin off his game. In my opinion, Ukraine sending missiles into Russia is like making a pawn sacrifice (to Putin) but we know that once the Russian people (resources) see this then they will ask questions and of course that creates a problem for Putin.
Otherwise, what else apart from Trump doing something can change the current nature of this war?
If the war ends with Russia perceiving victory and weakness in the West, it will simply serve as a precursor to the next Russian aggression and interference in Eastern Europe. Putin Imperialistic ambition is counting on this.
I also believe you're motivated by moral principle. Unfortunately, our principles don't always align with others, and in this case, Putin is a proven imperialist with a deep resentment of the USSR's collapse and a clear desire to reassert control over former Soviet territories. Sadly, this won't end with Ukraine if Putin is not defeated.
I think thats spot on but i do also wonder if there are any alternatives.
After the sanctions I expected the Russian economy to collapse within 6months but theyve obviously used other channels to keep going -- including some surprising ones.
Other than assassinating Putin there is not much on the table.
