They're going to have to sign a peace deal, which is frankly going to have to be a lot worse than it otherwise should have been.

Russia will not be paying to repair Ukraine either. There will be conditions on them never joining NATO/EU so they might as well forget about that. Id imagine the parts of the country that voted to be Russian will be allowed to join Russia, and the Ukrainian state will need to help fund it's repair.

And yes, war mongers like Zelesnky will need to go. Someone with a more pragmatic attitude will come in.

It's funny. I've been reading a lot about the Treat of Breat Litovsk negotiations.

The Bolsheviks had to give up enormous amounts. 45-50% of productive land, industry etc to make the deal..but continuing an unwinnable war would have been worse.

About the only upside of Trump II is that this bloodbath is halted and it stops the draining support to a corrupt beyond belief Ukrainian political class.

As you say, Putin will exact a price for peace deal but it'll have to be paid.

I'll tell you something else for nothing too: there'll be some mightily relieved western European governments when a peace deal is hammered out. The cost to our economies has been back-breaking.

Realistically they are pretty much shafted now, or at least will be soon. Hell of a resistance they've put up, presumably some of the leadership will be skedaddling before Moscow gets full sway over the place, even if the Kremlin only considers that more of a challenge these days.

At least Russia getting bogged down there for years has probably dampened the fears people would have had of them just rolling on had they been able to just blitzkrieg it as planned.

Firstly no deal will even be started without a withdrawal from Kursk. That's one of Ukraine's major bargaining chips negated before any deal can be done.

As for the parts that voted - does that mean giving up the total oblast including areas not under Russian control because if that’s not on the table, then why would Russia stop - there'd have to be some serious compromise elsewhere.

Will Ukraine get thrown under a bus by the US if Russia agrres to do something similar with Iran? Very interesting times indeed. How much support will Europe and non-US supporters of Ukraine be willing to step up if Trump ditches US support?

Putin will likely see Trump's victory as an opportunity to reset Russia's relationship with the U.S. This could either benefit Europe or create complications as it (we) percieve or face a struggle to secure the borders with little or no support from the U.S. It could also place immense strain on both the EU and NATO, especially if countries like Germany are willing to consider Putin's demands, while Poland and the Baltic states remain opposed. Putin will undoubtedly hope for such a division and his puppet, Orban is already stirring the pot.

Don't you think it's wrong to describe someone defending their country as a warmonger?

I'm sure you're right that joining Nato won't be allowed in any "peace?" negotiation but that will mean that the peace won't stand for anything and Russia will just invade Ukraine once they have restocked their army in a few years.

How the hell is Zelensky a "war monger" . All he has done is try to defend his country against an aggressor who invaded his country.
