Your experiences qualify you to talk with credibility about a war theatre for sure.

& that’s what I’ve done in a thread that’s full of opinions, including mine because at the end of the day we have absolutely no idea what the Ukrainian intention is in Kursk.

Do you honestly believe, at this stage of the war, they’ve committed that number which include extremely good brigades for appearances?

Well I suppose it can be something more than deflection if it were sustained and built on; but by most commentator's judgement it wont be, and they'll retreat.

And what does that prove? That they can put such an incursion together again? Ok. But, again, to what end. As said, I'm not a military person but does it look like this has merit as a strategic move militarily? It suggests more that it's been a stunt aimed at changing the narrative inside Russia, but that doesn't look like it'll bear fruit - probably have the opposite effect.

You’re absolutely correct that it’s a narrative change, locals already on the ground on TV complaining about the state & their lack of protection.

We’re not sure what the mid-long term goals are, they’re correctly kept extremely quiet. There can be several wins for them though even if they were to tactical withdraw.

Like I said before, gives them more range further into Russia to cause damage to military infrastructure & supply lines (think they’ve already sit several bases with F-16s). Short term they’ll also drag other Russian forces away from areas (Kharkiv possibly) which then may allow & counter attack in that area (Ukraine desperately need it)

If there’s a long term goal for them (I doubt it but I’ve no idea) then the city of Kursk could give the Russians a huge headache in Belograd.

It’s a bold strategy from Ukraine and shows them moving from the defensive to taking the initiative.

The interesting point will be what happens in six months time with the American leadership contest. Will Trump/Harris still support Ukraine?

Good thread here from 2 days ago on what units were pulled from where, sounds like the UA are dug in pretty well, could mean short-mid term operation.
