I’ve not seen much to confirm it, however I was told before that a strike on an airfield/arms dump in Russia took out over 500 glide bombs.

That could have a massive impact on Russia’s ability to counter the Ukrainian offensive, and/or protect their lines elsewhere.
That's about 5 days' worth of glide bombs. Given that the Russians are probably making them at the same rate then if true (and given the extremely big explosion at a Russian arms depot prior to the Kursk offensive I guess it is) then it would probably be enough to restrict the ability to repel the Ukrainians.

The gas pipeline is of strategic and fiscal importance, to both sides. In terms of moral too, it gives the Ukraine a boost and the Russians not.

Also, they’ve shown they can push relatively deep into Russian lines, which suggests their lines are fragile. So what will Russia do in response to it?

Well one may be they divert troops away from other areas, which will lessen their ability to attack along other parts of the front.

If it sews seeds of doubt into Russian commanders, it’s purpose is clear to see.
it will only be useful if this incursion lasts for some weeks.
With the dire situation in Donetsk, I don't see the advantages of throwing 500 (?) men at an offensive that's probably doomed to fail.

500? Ukraine has committed in excess of 25K troops multiple brigades, Armour, AD units, Artillery, Engineers. Full combined arms manoeuvre warfare. They’re not messing about here - this is a full scale offensive.

Still no one apart from the ukes are quite sure what their strategic objective actually is, but for now they appear to be running rings around the Russians.

The guardian speaks of 1000 now.

If 25k is confirmed than that's a tragedy if they don't stem the tide in Donetsk.

Russian mil bloggers are reporting sightings of 7 different Ukrainian brigades inside Russia.

Could be that Russia needs to pull troops and resources away from the Eastern front line to deal with the Kursk offensive. Might leave gaps in the line that Ukraine can further exploit.

Nobody really knows what’s going on atm especially Putin.

Aye, we can all surmise that there’s a deliberate policy of Ukrainian refusal to acknowledge or deny for the most obvious of reasons.

What you truthfully tell the press, you tell your enemy. It may have started with 1,000 troops, which would illicit a different response to 25k.

Normandy is a prime example where the Germans believed for a fair while that it was a diversionary attack before the assault on the Pas de Calais.

When they finally recognised (and worse, acknowledged) this wasn’t the case, it was far too late. Maybe Russia are only now realising the scale?
