I thought I read its only the interest accrued on the Frozen assets, either way its a welcome development and likely just a precursor to transferring all the frozen assets.
Yes it’s the accrued interest on the frozen assets. I think there’s a roadblock in international law about using the original frozen funds. But it will still wind Putin rar up.

TBF I think he has that backwards - the Ukrainian identity is the direct result of being ruled by Russia. Without it there really wouldn’t be a Ukraine.

300-400 years ago there was not a distinctive Ukrainian polity; they really were several groups of Slavic types mixed in with all the Slavic groups that made up Muscovy. It was the chauvinism of those who defined themselves as Russian (and therefore fit to rule) and everyone else as “others” that created a genuinely Ukrainian feeling.

It was the traumas of the 19th and 20th centuries that reinforced it that feeling into an identity and its this war - whether they win or lose it - that will cement it as a country.

Hillary, Biden and Trump are among the worst presidential candidates of modern times. Can you think of  any major-party nominee in modern times who does not beat them? Pre-Watergate Nixon beats them. Ford beats them. Dukakis probably beats them. Money may buy primaries by deterring quality opposition, but it doesn't win general elections.

The most stinging indictment of Hillary's unsuitability as a candidate is that she lost to Donald Trump in an election she should win on the fundamentals. In hindsight, it's not a surprise. She state-shopped for a Senate seat, had Giuliani self-destruct in the primary as effectively as he did at the end of Trump's reign, won a pair of general election walkovers and had a disastrous term as Secretary of State. She lost her only test in a competitive election to a novice who was a state legislator four years prior, and her initiatives in the second-highest (functionally) executive office in the land did not age well.

That's a bad candidate who never gets anywhere near the nomination without the network her husband built.

Finally being the operative word. I predicted this happening by September 2022.

However, the US has really treated this like a "were the good guys" until recently. Allowing Russian troops to become targets only upon crossing the border.

For 2 years they could have destroyed the ruble and allowed Ukraine to fire on Russian based targets.

I wonder if the decisions have been driven by the Democrats or US military (i have no idea). Either way its naive at best.
I don't agree, it had to be slow burners, Russia set their red lines, the west couldn't just charge across these lines with wreckless abandon, tip toe up to and then tip toe across was the correct approach, perhaps things could have sped up a bit that time the Missile landed in Poland and the Russian leaders were running around soiling themselves hoping it wasn't a stray Russian missile, that was the real Russians attitude towards NATO they were terrified, I think the Americans have played a blinder by dragging it out, they've ensured that Russia can't/won't attempt another invasion of another country for many many years, such is the Russian equipment loss, Allowing Ukraine to strike military inside Russia seems to be in preparation for F16s as they are targeting a lot of anti air equipment. If Ukraine gain control of the air it's game over.

As bad as he was, the alternative was Hillary.
You cant honestly tell me that Hillary would have got into bed with Putin, Satanyahu and Cuba whilst destroying the previous efforts at dialogue with Iran and N,Korea?!?!

Honestly, Trrump couldnt have done much more damage if he had tried - not even taking into account his right-wing/hate nonsense

She’d absolutely have gotten into bed with Netanyahu; she is in bed with him now. I can’t imagine a scenario in which she would have done better diplomatically either; the contrast between her and Kerry in that role was massive and not in her favour.

Literally just a few days ago she backed Jamal Bowman’s challenger, a challenge which he is only facing because of his stance on Gaza. She is one of those rare people who is wrong about everything.

I know she is far from decent but never had her down for these levels - as always, I learned a bit here!

EDIT:
Actually, I just did a very quick search and she does not to be as "in bed" as you make out. In fact, she has been calling him out a fair bit.
