tu-22m3 was developed in the 60's.
Can't find for sure but it's either a third or fourth generation. The Americans are currently looking to replace F-22 fifth gen multipurpose fighters.
Relying on soviet era aircraft now is frankly nuts, and the F-16's developed in the 70's are 100% 4th gen with upgraded radar tech.
Latest 5th gen multi role fighters Russia has are the sukhoi su-57, developed late 90's and into service 2010. Russia has a total of 22 (production) of them.
5th gen aircraft utilise much more modern stealth technology, because radar detection has advanced so far in the last 3 (?) decades. Old aircraft are now to easily detectable, significantly slower and aren't armed with anything like the missiles on the latest aircraft and ground based defense systems.

The russkis will be utilizing all them luxury yachts to go into battle with yet, because the money that has been pulled out of their economy by their gangsters is money stolen from projects like national defense and infrastructure.

I see a real pasting coming when the Ukrainians get the F16's going, and I only see one response when that happens and putin is losing men, machines, land, and political capital. Chernobyl and Fukushima could be eclipsed in a moment.

Statement from President Joe Biden on Russia’s Aerial Assault on Ukraine

  1. HOME
  2. BRIEFING ROOM
  3. STATEMENTS AND RELEASES
Overnight, Russia launched its largest aerial assault on Ukraine since this war began. This massive bombardment used drones and missiles, including missiles with hypersonic capability, to strike cities and civilian infrastructure all across Ukraine. Strikes reportedly hit a maternity hospital, a shopping mall, and residential areas—killing innocent people and injuring dozens more. It is a stark reminder to the world that, after nearly two years of this devastating war, Putin’s objective remains unchanged. He seeks to obliterate Ukraine and subjugate its people. He must be stopped.

In the face of this brutal attack, Ukraine deployed the air defense systems that the United States and our Allies and partners have delivered to Ukraine over the past year to successfully intercept and destroy many of the missiles and drones. The American people can be proud of the lives we have helped to save and the support we have given Ukraine as it defends its people, its freedom, and its independence. But unless Congress takes urgent action in the new year, we will not be able to continue sending the weapons and vital air defense systems Ukraine needs to protect its people. Congress must step up and act without any further delay.

The stakes of this fight extend far beyond Ukraine. They affect the entirety of the NATO Alliance, the security of Europe, and the future of the Transatlantic relationship. Putin has not just attempted to destroy Ukraine; he has threatened some of our NATO Allies as well. When dictators and autocrats are allowed to run roughshod in Europe, the risk rises that the United States gets pulled in directly. And the consequences reverberate around the world. That’s why the United States has rallied a coalition of more than 50 countries to support the defense of Ukraine. We cannot let our allies and partners down. We cannot let Ukraine down. History will judge harshly those who fail to answer freedom’s call.

Now make the same statement and replace the words Russia and Ukraine with Israel and Gaza, otherwise your words are meaningless.

(Not you, I know Biden is on here and can read this)

Israel have the US over a barrel and are totally exploiting the situation. Israel being the wests strongest ally in the region but also having a relationship with Russia will have leveraged this and the Ukraine and the US/Russia situation.

The USA still uses a bomber whose development started in the 1940s. For carriage and delivery of large quantities of stand-off weapons, the TU-22 (and the B-52, and the TU-95) are still profoundly effective and it is absolutely not nuts to still use them - the opposite is true, in fact.

To be fair I was comparing fighters.
