The sad irony is that this is exactly what the extreme right in the US wants: security without an attached price tag at Treasury. They'll send weapons to Israel out of a misguided religious motivation, but they won't pay for furthering legitimate security objectives.

As some have advocated for a while on here, Europe should not and does not need the US protection if it stays united, even if just in part, and should take ownership of this. Trumps NATO threats are akin to Putins energy blackmail et al.
