The confederacy and Hitler were pretty much indisputably the bad guys.

Russia are wrong. America are wrong. The confederacy was wrong and Hitler. One has won all the battles and is the dominant empire in the world causing mayhem trying to expand even more control and influencethan it already has. No good guys in this.

I am going to go out on a limb and argue we can all be happy that those on the side of owning human beings and murdering Jews on an industrial level lost.

Some people are having a go at the West and some at Russia, mostly. Its the government and actions not the people of the west and Russia. So hope no one takes it personally and gets offended. We are all talking on a government level. We are all working class people. More importantly we are all blues. So I hope none.of us are taking things personally. Its not the people both sides are attacking. Just systems.

It's fine mate, I don't think anyone denies the UK, US et al have done horrible stuff in the past. Iraq being the one in my lifetime that I feel horrified about. The Troubles are another. On the other hand, we can condemn Putin's regime and actions too. Sure he might not like NATO being near his borders but christ alive, you don't need to do this. As you say its rarely the leaders who suffer the most. Always the folk caught in the crossfire.

Are people actually getting news from state run BBC? Starting to see why no one has a problem with Britain and USA. Actually shocked some people are to bring it up.

Wasn't it President Lincoln who refused to acknowledge the confederacy as a country? He declared war on them and said he will do everything in his power to not let them become thier own country..

I Already hear 'but..but they are the baddies' they are the hitlers like putin. Didnt you see the Hitler putin pictures all these pro america media companies made?

I hope peace breaks out asap.
But It's a bit easier capturing an airport, than taking a large-ish city like Kiev, house by house street by street, defended by possibly in the long term, out gunned, but in the short to medium term, determined defenders.
Especially with a conscript army of untested determination.
I think somebody has forgotten the lessons of 1943, 44 and 1945 Berlin.

Edit; I'm not sure what the exact Russian translation of - "Sod this for a game of soldiers", actually is, but I think it will get well used by the invaders.

Ah but if you even hint that Putin isn't "mad", "crazy" etc and that there are calculated reasons for it all, whether you agree with them or not, is met with this wall.

If he's truly as "crazy" as they're making out and "it won't stop with Ukraine" (which is full on denial that there could possibly be a goal in mind) then there's only one answer and that's actual war. The rhetoric concerns me as its making people more receptive to that. All this caricaturing of Putin makes it like a video game or movie, where the bad guy must be vanquished and the righteous can make it happen.

The BBC are not a state run mouthpiece for the government. The current government have been heavily attacking the BBC over the last few years for this very reason.
