You have to remember, it wasn’t that long ago that the US/UK axis had a Super power holding them in check, they had to play semi nice, once the Soviet “threat” was vanquished… they thought they were on their way to Imperial Globalism.

They are now once again faced with a duo aligned “Superpower” holding them in check… albeit slowly, but their Imperial Globalism is toast.

Well hopefully anyway

Wonder if Kev's granddad was sat in his shed secretly tuning into Station Reichssender Hamburg, giving fist pumps every time William Joyce said the Germans had given the allies a good beat down.

When he returned to the house he let everyone know how much of a stand up guy that Hitler was and if we all just surrendered the world would be a better place.
Kevin is on a gloriously ill thought wind up.

do not understand fully why he invaded, natural resources notwithstanding.
If russia can force Ukraine to the negotiating table and get backing to cease the 'special military operation' for cessation of lands current, then what's to stop vlad or whoever next from nibbling away another say 10% of Ukraine in 12 months time or so? If this is done enough times, Ukraine has agreed to shrink itself into being entirely surrounded by russia and belarus and will eventually be consumed. They aren't fighting for a strip of land, they are fighting for their future and their long term freedom.

Putin and Hitler have absolutely nothing in common. To date Putin has done nothing more than try and restore order in the south east corner of a neighbouring state. He has no possibility or desire of making any territorial claims elsewhere

The similarities are that they appear to want to reconstruct historic borders and/or hold greater sphere of control over independent states. So like Hitler was just reclaiming areas like the Rhineland and Sudetenland, Putin has taken parts of Georgia, Ukraine and has eyes on Transnistria in Moldova. Who knows what else after that? Where does appeasement stop?

You are right though, they also have differences. Like Hitler never actually threatened to wipe out countries like the UK before the war was even declared.

Or a puppet government installed that give the same human rights as what you get in Russia at the moment to keep everyone down.

It always amazes me and amuses me when anyone from this country talks about national sovereignty while pointing the finger at other states.

It had the biggest empire the world has seen, built on colonization and the enslavement of those within it. Russia has nothing on this country. As for wiping out countries, the only power to drop nuclear weapons on a population are the U.S.

Yes, that's whataboutery. But that's what you conjur up if you start bandying the Hitler equation about.

We did have the biggest empire but we haven't tried to gain any of it back since these countries declared independence as far as I'm aware? That's the difference between us that we let it go.

How is that ‘restoring order’ going, bearing in mind the destruction of cities, the deaths of hundreds of thousands, the rape of women, the abduction of children and the constant threat to nuke everyone…..

Pretty sure no one on here was involved in building the British Empire. Or the decision to drop the bombs in Japan. I’m also pretty sure that the vast majority on here would be completely against us doing the equivalent now. Just look at how many condemn the Iraq war. Just because you are caught up and obsessed with old wars and conflicts doesn’t mean we all are.

Yes, and just look at what nation was part of the invasion and colonization.

Unbelievable the humbug that comes from British people over the Ukraine War.

Oh and the destruction of the Russian economy, any vestige of respectability, the degradation of it’s military and being shown up by a country a quarter of its size, while allowing thousands of rapists and murderers out of prison to join the army before going back to its cities……
