Sorry mate, and I am no defender of this Govt, but the evidence in front of me suggests that is total bollox. Power lines are up and ready from Hinkley Point C nuclear power station; dozens of wind turbines are dotted around the Severn Estuary, solar panels are everywhere. Insulation grants a gogo, (including me).

Not even sure we have much of a reliance on Russian gas anyrate. Maybe we do, dunno.

Sake, the UK thread. Soz.

5% of our gas used to be supplied via Russia, majority of ours comes from the North Sea.

Major issue we had last year is we had no storage of gas cause we got rid of what limited capability we had so we were always going to be hit with a massive price hike straight away when war broke out in Ukraine.

Aye. You dont see them massive storage facilities anywhere do you? The famous one at The Oval, and I recall 2 behind the home end at Bristol Rovers old ground. Hence, The Gas.

Our storage was out in the North Sea Rough facility which was shut down in 2017 but got reopened late last year.

Still only holding a fraction of what it can but it will be a Hydrogen storage facility within a few years instead of gas.

Insane video of Ukrainian soldiers caught in a minefield doing the rounds. War is absolute hell. I'm sorry I watched it.
Is this the one where he blows his leg off and calmly applies a tourniquet to himself? We’ve all grown up on stories of war and grainy footage mostly, this is war in 4K and I think a lot of people are for the first time seeing how savage war actually is.

that's your right, but it does make most of those complaining about the cost of living hypocrites. If you support the sanctions and taxpayer funds going abroad, you can't at the same time complain that our government doesn't pay doctors and nurses enough. Nor can you complain about the cost of living since it is directly due to our sanctions resulting in massive shortages and costs of oils, grains and fertilisers that all came from Russia.
Well, Toffeepie1878, that ignores that the suppression of public sector workers pay predates this war.

Arguably if public sector pay had kept pace with inflation prior to all of this folk wouldn't be feeling the pinch so much now.

This pressure point just brings a long term policy choice into sharp relief.
