Agreed. Short version, I think it turned out Putin was holding more cards than we thought he was, twenty-four hours ago.

I didn't like Prigozhin's position on the board from the start, but I thought he might know something we didn't. Once Putin committed to the bridges on the Oka, I realized Prigozhin was boned. I think he made the same calculation.
And yet there you were predicting that 25k soldiers would take Moscow 🙄

I entertained the possibility the entire time. If @PhilM was right that everything in the way was stripped, Putin was done. It turned out that Putin could scramble enough to mount a credible defense, and more or less where I thought he should.

Whereabouts in Belarus is Prigozhin? If he's on the western border, I can't imagine Poland is to happy. If he's in the North, Latvia and Lithuania will be on red alert too.

But surely the least happy will be Belarus itself.

Meanwhile what have the Russians been doing in Ukraine whilst this farce has been taking place?

We shall certainly see what we shall see.

Long way to go, yet. Putin's position on the board is poor, but he's the better player. He hasn't held on that long by accident.

Looking at a map, all Putin has to do is drop a few bridges into the Oka River to stymie Prigozhin for a good bit. That river is very inconveniently placed, for an advance from the south. The more I look at it, the more I think Putin has this one so long as he can get Russians to fire upon Russians. An inability to produce that result must be what Prigozhin is counting on.
Make sure you don't trip over backtracking.😅
That post was very early in the game. Most experts I have read after the fact agree with the last sentence as the overall explanation, as well.

"Numbers are one of those things that matter more on paper than they do in practice, with the number of troops under arms. Twenty-five thousand battle-hardened veterans are worth a lot more than the same number of green recruits, poorly-trained reservists and converted police."
😅
Yep the 340,000 of the Russian National Guard plus the airforce would have been a push over. Some military expert you are.🙄

It depends on where the soldiers are, which was always Phil's point.

I'm sorry, but I have to point blank you here. You do not know what you are talking about, at all. We do.

"Konstantin Gaaze, a Moscow-based political analyst and journalist with the Carnegie Moscow Center, said this new force was "linked to the election cycle" and that "Putin wants to make sure the situation that took place on the Maidan, in Ukraine, won't happen in Russia."Gaaze further said that Putin's creation of the National Guard created a counterbalance not only to the Federal Security Forces, but also to the Russian Army itself and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stating: "The newly established National Guard is the president's army in the literal sense of the word. An army, which can be used without intermediaries in the form of a defense minister and without the constitutional rules on the use of the Armed Forces."
Putin's private army trumped Prigozhin's didn't take a faux military expert to work out that one. Your levels of self delusion and hubris are hilarious.

I spent a lot of years earning that level of hubris. Did you?

I'll point out that the experts the BBC and others consulted are with me, on Prigozhin's apparent belief that he could get Russian soldiers to stand aside.

Do tell us about how those years helped you fail to recognise the obvious.😅
"Earned hubris" you're comedy gold.
Come back when you've spent as many years studying the subject, and we can talk.

I stand by all the posts. They were good content on an emerging situation. I'll point blank you again. Your uninformed opinion does not matter to me.

You leave me no choice but to place you on ignore. Enjoy having your last word.

Correct, theyre absolute dangers.

Yet youve been praising the scum for doing all sorts in HK.

Youre one warped brainwashed unstable freak.

He had all the cards...could have found himself in Moscow and been the hero to kick Putin out -- THEN decided to abdicate and allow elections or who knows what.

Instead hes done a deal and scuttled off to Belarus...nonsensical, how does he benefit?
They were rioters (scum by the highest order) what do you expect? They broke the law, burning banks and shops up, destroying the MTR and traffic system, barricading the road, stopping people from going to work by paralyzing the MTR and gang beating people up thus they are put in jail. By the way, despite they are ethical Chinese some so-called Hker deny they are Chinese. Bet you are one of them.

Do you have guts to answer this that you failed to respond in the other thread? A man who was killed by rioters.

Rioters even burned a man alive do you need a link to wake your brain up? Hey if your braindead mind wants to continue to talk about this, we discuss this in the original thread. This is a thread about the war between Russia and Ukraine.
