I’m not saying they are themselves evil or even that they condone evil. What I’m saying is that they choose to they ignore the evil that is taking place at the hands of their military and orchestrated by their politicians.

So long as they can live their lives as before then they couldn’t give a toss.

That indifference and selective ignorance is why imo they are complicit in the crimes being committed in Ukraine.
No idea how widespread but some most definitely do condone evil.

However also important that we in the West see your average Russian as human, and subject to the same flaws/weaknesses, as once you don’t see people as human then you tolerate a whole lot of abuses in revenge.

I think they`ve just interviewed @davek parents there.

"MEPs WANT TO LIST WAGNER GROUP AS TERROR ORGANIZATION: Cross-party MEPs are calling for the EU to list the Wagner Group as a terrorist organization. The private mercenary militia, led by close Putin-ally Yevgeny Prigozhin, has been involved in conflicts from Ukraine to Syria, Sudan, Mozambique and the Central African Republic, among others.

Broad support: The MEPs (representing the full spectrum of Parliament’s groups, from the far-right ID to The Left, Renew, the EPP, the S&D and the Greens) sent a letter, dated November 11, to European Council President Charles Michel and Czech PM Petr Fiala, whose country holds the rotating Council presidency. Citing “ongoing violations of international law in Ukraine” by Wagner and “their previous exploits in other conflicts,” the MEPs say the group should be designated a terrorist organization."

It's Russia's shadow army, not too dissimilar how Blackwater was a quasi-state controlled organisation.

So who is responsible for whatever it does…..

I've just edited my original post, and it may help answer that. As I said, it is 'conveniently separate from the military and the Duma', which adds protection.

The Duma and the military will say they're not responsible; in fact, such an organisation is forbidden in Russia, as PMCs are not allowed under legislation.

So they (and alas, Russia) are able to proclaim it ain't anything to do with them, therefore operating outside the law and any form of jurisdiction of the courts.

But, in reality they are turning a blind eye to the fact that they openly recruit within Russia, are being financed from within and use surplus military hardware.

They do the state's (well, their leader's) dirty work, and in part receive support from the likes of the FSB and GRU (miliary intelligence).

Ultimately, Putin and co. are responsible, but that isn't going to stick unless there's some form of regime change.

You’re right, bar the official part in the truest sense. Let’s not beat around the bush - it’s a paramilitary organisation and tool of the Russia hierarchy.

However, it works outside of the main governmental apparatus, and answer personally to a few.

I’d like to see it destroyed wherever it is operating. The West should put out its own far larger private army to take it on wherever it is operating. Nothing to do with us of course, because it’s a private army outside of our control……
