It is a difficult discussion tbf. But what I can’t get my head around is that they know a war (special military operation) is going on, and they know that Russia is bombing Ukraine and sending in thousands of soldiers. Yet they also know that while Ukrainian cities are being attacked, they also know that Ukraine has not bombed the crap out ofMoscow or any other Russian city. If they cannot work out that this is a one way street then they are indeed stupid….

Totally agree @Mutzo Nutzo. Pete, nah. If the rumours are confirmed to be true, they're supposedly pulling out as they no longer want the responsibility and/or risk.

It appears as if Russia are trying to pull back to positions that they can maintain throughout the winter, so giving up Zaporizhzhia seems/is logical.

Just no, mate. I can't with any validity talk about the extent of Russian Internet access, although have a feeling that people will be careful about what they look at, even if they can. Russians do not know that the west was never a threat. They don't choise to ignore anything. True , some might be a bit careful in what they say or do for fear of never having another job, and they and their family being homeless, but definitely don't support or condone rape or slaughter of civilians. 'People', black, white, European, American, male, female, or LGBTQ, or whatever, are fundamentally decent. You can show me one evil one, or a bunch or morally deficient ones who've got together to form the SS, or KKK, but you can't show me tens if thousands, or millions, who are evil, or even inclined to condone evil, at heart.

I’m not saying they are themselves evil or even that they condone evil. What I’m saying is that they choose to they ignore the evil that is taking place at the hands of their military and orchestrated by their politicians.

So long as they can live their lives as before then they couldn’t give a toss.

That indifference and selective ignorance is why imo they are complicit in the crimes being committed in Ukraine.

Yes, I get what you're saying, mste, but I just don't believe that the average Russian Joe believes that evil is being done in their name, or definitely didn't at the start of all this, but maybe getting suspicious, now. I guess we'll just have to differ. I appreciate that you aren't a maniacal 'hang' em all' Russo-phobe, and nor are the people who agree with you. Your take just isn't my take on all this. Not worth starting a war over a difference of opinion. Er,.........
 
I appreciate the wistful naivety of those who just want to believe the best as admirable. Its best not to pull up history books and see what people have usually been like without the check of "culture" or consequences. I say this as an optimist, but a realistic one.

But lets not start looking to make excuses for those who permit some of the worst crimes of our days, lets be better than that and demand better. Lets demand basic human decency. History is filled with the horrors of silence, and we judge every one of them that was. Why not turn a better corner?
