TBF this sort of thing should have been happening a lot more before this, but some idiots confused dialogue with appeasement. The Ukrainians should be talking to the Russians as well, at a high level - if for no other reason than to prevent this "well we wanted negotiations but they refused" card.

Hard to have a dialogue though with someone who doesn’t want one - do we know for sure it was Westerners who weren’t calling to avoid how it looked?

I don't know how old you are, or whether you are aware of the Iraq war (I assume you do as you post a lot about military things), or whether you followed world events at the time or whether you have forgotten. But the UN was lied to by the US government.


US says to the UN, 'Iraq has WMD' - means Iraq didn't have WMDs. The opposite of what they said.

US/UK/France says, 'Russia's false allegations that Ukraine is preparing to use a dirty bomb on its territory - means .....

Does Ukraine have the ability to develop a dirty bomb?

It’s hard to positive constructive dialogue when one side continues to lie deceive and conspire.

Hard to have a dialogue though with someone who doesn’t want one - do we know for sure it was Westerners who weren’t calling to avoid how it looked?

It is very easy to show willingness for talks, though. Turn up, explain in public what your position is, let the other side embarrass themselves. If you don't turn up yourselves, it is not easy to show the reasonableness of your position.

Not via the medium of diplomacy they haven't - they've stood off and uselessly pontificated, rather than bringing in any kind of attempts to actually stop the fighting.

I mean to cite the worst example this is the biggest crisis in many years, and the US President is not engaging with his Russian counterpart - no talks, no hot-line, no summits. This abdication is not something that can be easily blamed on the Russians, and is both unprecedented and profoundly dangerous.

Check out Dimas airbase in Syria it would appear that Syria moved a significant amount of resources to that base.
