I mean, they are fooling themselves if they do, the GOP like the Dems wants to be elected more than anything else, they will just follow what is popular, and Ukraine is too popular to go against. Just like Dems are all anti-war until they get in power, GOP are all anti-government spending until they get in power. Once in power both sides just through it out for whatever people want and will re-elect them for.

75% of US voters support aid to Ukraine, and thats why 75% of GOP senators and representatives voted for aid packages. McCarthy is just posturing to try and get other concessions with any future package they pass.
That is it though, it isn’t particularly popular with Republican voters, at least not at current levels. I’d exoect those trends to contine, especiially if gas prcies rise and we slide into a recession. So the GOP are far more likely to reduce it than if Dems retain the House. Tucker Carlson is very influential in some of the more vocal wings of the party’s support.

Today is @Yaroslav's birthday. Some of you will remember Yaroslav. If you don't just search his name and his posts in this thread.

He last posted on the 4th of March.

I hope he is somewhere safe enough, surrounded by his loved ones, to at least try to enjoy his birthday.

Happy Birthday Yaroslav.
May peace find you all soon

It will be spending the next week or so saying that every russian missile which hits a civilian target is actually a stray Ukranian defence missile. Am I right?

How much damage does a MANPAD make when it doesn't hit its target but lands somewhere?

Its not, I live here, I see it discussed and talk to people daily. That one poll designed to get a weird headline never asks whether they support aid but just how much.

That poll also says only 32% of those who lean Republican think its too much support. That leaves 68%. Drop the next package down 20% and theres over 75-80% GOP support for still an unheard of amount of immediate weapons funding. The last poll I saw also said 87% of voters support funding at or above the current level, half unconditionally, and half with a condition(no blank check) the US be involved in any negotiations and eventually peace talks. 68% is pretty popular, politicians kill for that.

I live in the US too, although in a very Dem area so hard to judge GOP attitudes via my regular contacts which is why I’ve been looking at polling.

That particular poll does suggest GOP voters would 46% would support some funding, but not as much as Dems which is why I think that Putin will again try to influence the election, as he has the most recent ones.

Any idea which poll you saw with 87%, the ones I’ve seen recenlty been much more skeptical

The poll found close to half of likely US voters (48%) somewhat or strongly oppose the US providing aid to Ukraine at current levels if long-term global economic hardship, including in the US, occurs. Meanwhile, the poll showed that only four-in-10 Americans somewhat or strongly support the US providing aid to Ukraine at current levels if this occurs.

The poll also found 58% of Americans somewhat somewhat or strongly oppose the US providing aid to Ukraine at current levels if there are higher gas prices and a higher cost of goods in the US, while just 33% somewhat or strongly support continuing aid if this occurs.

Im curious, do you know how many people are in congress?

I notice you didnt post the messaging from the republican who will literally be running the foreign affairs committee if the GOP wins.
Yes, I’ve lived in the US over 20 years and in any case it is a question on the citizenship test that I passed so I’m unlikely to forget it.

No I didn’t as I haven’t seen it, care to share?
