So there's this word in the English language: emboldened.

We usually use that one in international relations in the context of alliances, but it also applies to signaling weakness in the face of the threat of force of arms.

Just like Germany was emboldened in WW2 and Japan was emboldened to attack PH. There are many instances of aggressors being emboldened due to perceived weakness, and then usually losing. But before blaming ourselves we should point the finger at those actually engaged in the aggression….

Exactly. Right now a majority of the western powers are destabilisd by false right wing ideologies perpetuated by lies and promotion on the Internet. A proportion are genuinely evil that vote that way, some are gullible and some are desperate. Putin has taken advantage of all of them.

Did Trump build his wall? Or drain the swamp?

Has Brexit made life better in any way for the UK?

Not a chance.

Did Brexit help to start WW2. Did being in the EU stop Argentina invading the Falklands ?….

Think you are missing the point mate. The issue isnt how good or bad sommet is, its how malign influences in the modern world can push an agenda that suits them. It is very very clever, and hard to see.

When a modest football forum gets examples of it, I can reasonably assume that the larger sites and that were used as well.

In a more gentle age, its similar to leaflets through your letter box being nicked and replaced by a Russian one, or a Merican one, or whoever wants to influence an election. Or referendum. For their interests.

And I know, it sounds nuts. But it happens. Trust me.

One recent example of how they can work, was in the leadership debate. Sunak set out to Truss exactly what would happen if she pursued the 45% tax cut. He was proven 100% correct btw. Her response to him? "Project Fear". Where was that born?

Its why companies dont have one TV ad. They repeat and repeat and repeat. "Finger Licking Good". I know you know the company, even if you have never bought their product.

Youre joking right? You cant believe what youre writing surely lol
I 100% believe what he's writing and have been saying it on here for years.
Putin has spent the last decade investing in destabilizing the west.
He has used the internet to whip up populist nationalist sentiment and turn people against each other.
He has convinced large segments of western society to ignore or even vilify anyone who points this out.
He had a large hand in the election of Trump and the vote for Brexit as he was well aware that sewing chaos in the west was to his advantage.
And thanks to the new money brought in by oligarchs and the RU government themselves, most of our politicians in both the UK and US stood by and let it happen.
The mid terms are coming here, Republicans are running on tickets of zero funding for Ukraine, you think Putin is doing nothing to influence people to vote for the GOP?

Completely disagree.

We can't change Putin. We do control what we vote for. If you voted for someone who was soft on Russia, then you should go take a hard look in the mirror because you contributed to this outcome.

If you intend to do it again, then you need to take a much longer look in that mirror, because that means you didn't learn anything. That should frighten you.

This is a level above genius so I might have to post it twice (inflation thread too).

Lets hope Truss spots is soon so we can benefit, too.

TBF it isn't a crazy idea - the British government did much the same thing in WW2, and it worked at largely preventing profiteering and the social damage that came from that, prevented runaway inflation and kept families and businesses going (by removing the need for big wage increases to cope with inflated prices).

Doing it does need expert control though (of production, prices and of consumption of the affected goods (ie: rationing)), as well as genuine domestic support and you absolutely cannot have bent people overseeing the system because the opportunities for graft will be so great they will quickly wreck what they would be trying to do.

Thanks for ruining my fun, Tsubes :(
