This is an interesting sideline. China introduced a resolution in December, which passed by acclimation, declaring an "Olympic Truce" through mid-March. It's not the sort of thing that a country can reasonably vote against (hey, neighbors, we're planning to attack one of you in the next couple of months) so Russia went along.

This probably helps explain why Putin reportedly went seeking maskirova and the attendant fig leaf. Putin can't wait until mid-March to move. If he wants to blitzkrieg Kiev, which he can, he needs to do it while the ground is frozen so the tanks can move quickly. A spring invasion of Ukraine is not advisable, because the tanks will get bogged down.

It has also been reported that China explicitly asked Russia to wait until after the Olympics to invade, which China denies.

Mate, the link doesn't work.

Aye, the ground conditions will play a huge part in their decision. The weather typically turns late March to early April, with rapidly increasing temperatures.

To move the heavy armour and mechanised infantry and artillery ver ground (not confined to roads) will need good ground or they'll be an easier target.

If it's gong to happen, it'll likely start no earlier than a week or two from now, and then there'll be a window of a few weeks.

My bad, the 'm' at the end got cut off copying it on my phone, so: https://www.un.org/press/en/2021/ga12391.doc.htm

Seize the property, sell it to the highest bidder, stick the proceeds in the government's coffers and tell Moscow to come get it if they want it back.

Putting it in trust would be better, it would pay for itself and it would be a big carrot in any negotiations down the line. We’d also be able to judge the extent of ownership and it would hopefully result in a wider examination and assessment of offshored property ownership, which is a scandal long overdue public attention.

Selling it would just result in it going to citizens of another country that funds our ruling party, and yet another burden on the taxpayer when all those oligarchs use their already bloated lawyers to try and get it back.

Sure the Russian command will be aware of the difficulties the British and Canadians found in the battle of the Reichwald, February 1945

Aye, the flooding of the land made it much easier to force them into stacked columns. The Russians will also be aware of how a quagmire can slow movement.

The German spearheads were slowed significantly when the storms came and the road turned into a swamp.

I see Boris is going over to have a word with Putin this week , Putin must be quaking in his boots.
Whoever advises the fat useless lump they should tell him to stay at home and leave it to the grownups.
