Oh I remember that one...fake intel that a country has weapons of mass destruction, invade, kill somewhere between a quarter and half a million of its citizens, steal its oil and mineral resources, then make it pay you to rebuild. Sound economic model.
Wrong thread - you need the anti-NATO / hatred of the west thread.

Pipe routes are still available south of nord streams. So supply lines are available. Notably that includes through Ukraine.

Those supply lines may just have become more strategically important now. If Russia refuses to open those lines and winter is particularly hard and/ or long, then we could see a medium to long term game playing out.

I'm still going through my workings to see if it benefits anyone or if I have came up with a tin foil hat theory.
I’ve thought long and hard about this and my money is on Al Rayyan fanatics.
Cordova out.
Up the Fierce!

Looks like the penny has dropped here in Germany with the government announcing a €200bn energy price cap fund. I've been saying it all along: if you want people to go along with a pro-Ukraine policy, you are going to have to ensure they can pay their energy bills. There is no point being an economic superpower unless you are going to use your economic arsenal. Even the hawkish Christian Lindner, the finance minister, has admitted that this is indeed a display of economic might in the context of an energy war. Whatever policies in foreign affairs this government wants to follow, they'll be out on their ears by February if they do not start coughing up for the citizenry. So today is a positive and very necessary move.

If either side had clear evidence of the culprit it would clearly be of use as propaganda against the side who did it.

If evidence exists I'd expect it to come out asap to weaponise opinions. Everything eventually comes to light though.
Maybe not. To say you have evidence requires you to do disclose how you’ve obtained such evidence and in the sneaky beaky world this is a no go.

The UK, US et al will not want Russia, China or whoever or whatever else having even the slight understanding of their intelligence capabilities.

Sometimes, it’s better to be coy and deal with it in other ways.

Sweden appears to have been asleep at the wheel. No sonar installations? And we've always been led to believe the US are very aware of Russian sub movements. I'm sure an expert will be along soon armed with the requisite acronyms to save the day.?
It's amazing how Russian Special forces were able to get to an area between NATO countries Denmark, Germany and Poland, and high alert non Nato Sweden and do a dastardly sabotage of a gas pipeline. Takes some doing that, considering we're told they are militarily useless. It's like they cut cables in the English Channel and no-one saw them.

Theyre special forces not cannon fodder

Im curious, how many Russian operatives, spies, submarines, and hidden special forces do you think Russia has around the world? The ones NOT in Russia, but instead in foreign and currently hostile governments lands or waters? You seem to imply you believe that number is zero.

Exactly. Either the UK/US did it (unlikely), or they don't want the Russians to know how they know who the culprit is.

To be fair the submarines will be known. Not exact location but UK, US, France etc will know how many are deployed. Constant satellite images on all their bases watch their submarines leave port.

Obviously this is the same as us. They will have satellites watching our boats leaving faslane. One of Faslane’s main reasons for choice to be the port for nuclear warhead carrying boats was due to cloud cover lol.

Operatives and special forces will be harder to track and impossible to say how many but guessing pretty high.

The US just bagged an army major and a doctor at Hopkins:

If they're penetrating Hopkins, I would say their networks are pretty extensive.

I think the Russian boats are a lot more noisy and can be detected far more readily than ours. In the Cold War, we went for stealth and they played the numbers game, expecting losses.
