No, but it wouldn’t surprise me. The Russian army are a bunch of scruffs, with no real effective leadership, tgey are nothing more than a rabble (with a lot of artillery) but a rabble nonetheless.
All chatter of course, yet the talk has been at least four general to field officers have been taken alive or killed in the previous twenty-four hours.

Now we know they've sent senior officers towards the front, however Lt. Gen, a Col. and some more all now out of the fight is hugely telling of the situation.

In layman's terms, the RA's worst case scenario has been past by as their ruperts haven't been able to get back. I expect those left may be shifting eastward.

If that has happened (big if,) it could be an element to why their defences are unravelling as the chain of command could break.

They retreating because supply lines toward Izyum and Kupyansk were under threat (or cut off) and to avoid encirclement. From strictly military point of view its actually sensible decision, for moral and political consequences, its bad (for them).

A tactical retreat would be a sensible tactic in that situation. The information coming out at the moment however suggests it's may be an unorganised withdraw.*

If senior officers are being captured and equipment is being left behind, it's telling. You don't just turn and run - it should be in stages and with limited assaults.

*replace retreat with collapse.

Not a lot of info yet, but from what i read, Ukrainians entered Kupyansk and Izyum without a fight, still fog of war though.

Anyway what baffles me most how unprepared Russians were, Ukrainians obviously built quite large force in this sector, Russians intelligence should knew about it. Instead they were surprised with majority of Russian forces in most critical positions made of DPR recruits and various Militia.

Maybe they really only expected Kherson, seems they managed to keep situation under relative control there (possibly it was Ukrainian feint). Also terrain is much more open there with endless, flat fields, difficult for major offensive.

They came with ridiculous excuse

In order to achieve the goals of the Special Military Operation, a decision was made to regroup troops in the areas of Balakliya and Izyum in order to build up efforts in the Donetsk direction .

Within three days, an operation was carried out to curtail and transfer the Izyum-Balakliya group of troops to the territory of the DPR .

In the coming weeks it’s to be an election period within Russia, and this news may not go down well with the voters. If only it was a free election.
Nationalism is powerful drug, considering (mutual) hate, there is more chance opposite happen and they rally around.

You’d hope some patriotism kicks in and they know how their bread is buttered: Russia ≠ Putin. Admittedly, it’s unlikely but optimism and all that.

When the war started, not many would’ve thought Ukraine could stand the onslaught let alone counter attack, with casualty numbers dismissed.

Let’s hope the surprise keep occurring.
