I genuinely don't know enough about how American politics work, other than I think both of the last two administrations have been a complete disaster. When even US military strategists are saying this will end in a protracted stalemate for the sake of the civilian population some sort of negotiated peace deal should be being put forward. But then those calling for more weapons to escalate the conflict are comfortable sitting drinking coffee at a desk not hiding in a bomb shelter.
