2025/26 Tyler Dibling

He’s an investment for the future that was signed on a 4 year deal … he will be a year in come the summer and likely that he’s played almost no games , has not improved and his value plummeted …
Whilst the bolded is entirely subjective - are these not things that reflect much more poorly on Moyes given his complete lack of playing opportunities this season? Aznou similar.

Long before we signed him;

He's now 19.

An observation would be if he struggled in 2022 moving an hour to his boyhood/supported club, at academy level because of the environment, then Everton would do well to ensure the environment is spot on for a lad his own club, as a senior player, describe as a shy outsider.

Whatever way we spin it mate, it indicates he'll need a better environment than perhaps Everton have offered young players at the beginning of their careers since Moshiri.

Here is where Coleman earns his new contract.

People sneered at me referencing his homesick move to Chelsea because he was only 16 etc, and mentioning how people have said he's a shy lad etc.

Now we have a manager who is saying the same;
  • He is quite a quiet boy who might take more time to settle in
etc

We see players seemingly come out of nowhere at clubs like Brighton and fans say why can't we do that - often they were signed a year or two before they make any big impact.

Struggling to see the role/what Everton saw in Dibling myself but way too early to be conclusive on the lad. Give him time, and the environment - I'm sure there's a player there. Moyes doesn't make many big domestic buy duds.

Impossible to compare situations as so many subtle differences, but worth noting the 17 year old kid Brighton have given a start to on the right today. Full debut I think. Nothing like the ability on the ball as Dibling, but getting himself around the pitch, trying to be strong. Looks really bright. Lost the ball a few times but keeps asking for it etc. Most importantly looks like he really wants people to say he did well and clearly enjoying himself.

A good reset for Dibling would be to just run himself ragged next time he starts. If he’s knackered after an hour, fine. Take the applause for the effort and pressing and build on that.
That last bit is pretty much what Thierno did.

There is a player there, mate. Has all the tools to be a very good wide-man / attacking mid, very similar to Grealish in how we draws players in but quicker and has a good shot on him. He's quite tall as well, which is a bonus.

This is all what I've read about him and have seen in clips, he's hardly shown anything so far though.

I didn't agree with Moyes digging him out publically, but when he said he wants to see him get a bit more angry, I do actually think that myself.

Think there was some wrangling with Chelsea that resulted in him training on his own while his peer group were off in tournament that contributed too:

This story is quite interesting too as it suggests he can be a bit of a joker in the changing room despite his outward shyness.

I think something that is really working against Dibling is how lackadaisical he *looks*, like in terms of general vibes. It really colours people's opinions of him. Similar to how Barry looks very gawky and that makes people think he's worse technically than he actually is. He actually presses more than most of our players:

I think he could really work on his aggression, which would both help his play and also help get the fans onside, but he definitely works hard. It was the same at his Southampton days.

(Side note, yes Röhl is an absolute pressing machine)
Dibling's numbers are a pleasant surprise

but McNeils don't look right at all

It doesn't quantify intensity of pressure, it's just binary. I'd hazard a guess DIbling's and McNeil's is less intense than Alcaraz for example.

McNeil has always had good defensive workrate though, he's just not very athletic so it doesn't pop as much when watching

He looked strong on the ball at Southampton and on the front foot, he seems to play it backwards and side ways with us. Even Moyes hinted he wants him to be taking people on and being more direct.

Hoping confidence can kick in and he starts to play a bit. Think theres a player there but needs like you say right environment and change in mindset.

Age 19:

Grealish played 900 minutes for relegated Villa
Doku played 460 minutes for Rennes
Salah wasn't even playing senior football
Semenyo played 300 minutes for Bristol City
Palmer played 123 minutes for City

Would there have been any point in keeping any of those do you reckon mert?
Nobody had invested £35 million in any of them, he is a depreciating asset.
